  • Laureano (hip) has progressed to swinging off a tee and playing catch, but he isn't close to playing in games, MLB.com reports.

When Laureano underwent right hip surgery in early June, he was given a return timeline of 4-to-5 months. Though the veteran outfielder has been able to work his way up to swinging a bat and doing some throwing, that initial timeline doesn't appear to have changed. It still seems likely that Laureano's next game action won't take place until 2027, though there may be an outside chance he will return in October if San Diego makes a deep run in the playoffs.

  • The Padres placed Laureano (hip) on the 60-day injured list Friday.

The move comes shortly after the team announced Laureano is expected to miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair his torn right labrum. Gavin Sheets is likely to move to left field for the remainder of the year, while Ty France becomes the team's new primary first baseman.

  • Laureano underwent surgery Friday to repair a torn right labrum, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Manager Craig Stammen said that Laureano's surgery is expected to keep him out for 4-to-5 months, making it extremely unlikely that he plays again this season. If the 31-year-old isn't able to make it back before the end of the year, he'll finish 2026 with a .203/.286/.374 slash line alongside seven homers, 21 RBI, 23 runs and seven steals over 53 games. Gavin Sheets will likely take over as San Diego's primary left fielder for the rest of the regular season, which will allow Ty France to start regularly at first base.

  • The Padres placed Laureano on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to May 31, due to right hip inflammation.

It's unclear when Laureano sustained the injury, but he hasn't seen the field since going 0-for-3 with a walk and a caught stealing Saturday against the Nationals. The veteran outfielder was slumping hard prior to the injury with a .524 OPS over 25 games in May, so the Padres seem likely to send him for a rehab assignment to help him right the ship, regardless of how long he's on the shelf.

  • Laureano is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

The Padres will give Laureano a breather for Sunday's day game after he went 2-for-21 with a solo home run, two steals and an additional run while starting in the team's last six contests. San Diego will go with Nick Castellanos and Fernando Tatis as its starters in the corner outfield in the series finale while Laureano sits.
