Lambert did not factor into the decision Sunday against the A's, allowing two hits and no walks across two scoreless innings. He struck out one.
After going just 2.2 innings in his last start Thursday, Lambert essentially served as the opener in Sunday's regular-season finale, as he threw 41 pitches across two scoreless frames. The 29-year-old established himself as a mainstay in Houston's rotation this year, going 8-10 with a 3.82 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 154 strikeouts across 29 starts (155.2 innings). There's a good chance Lambert gets the call again at some point during the Wild Card Series, with the White Sox coming to town for Game 1 on Tuesday.

Lambert will start Sunday's game against the Athletics in Sacramento, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Lambert was believed to have made his final appearance of the regular season during his 2.2-inning start in Thursday's series opener, but since the Astros have yet to punch their ticket to the postseason, he'll end up getting the ball on two days' rest in Game 162. The Astros will clinch the AL West title with a win or a Rangers loss, so the team is expected to make all of its top pitchers available for Sunday's contest. Given that he's pitching on short rest, Lambert is unlikely to work deep enough into the game to qualify for a win.

Lambert was tagged for home runs by Jeff McNeil and Zack Gelof in the third inning, accounting for all four runs on his line. While Lambert was mostly steady in the second half, he ends the regular season without a win in his last 13 appearances. He posted a 3.87 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 153:59 K:BB across 153.2 innings over 28 starts in 2026. The Astros' largely unimpressive rotation could lead to Lambert getting a start during the wild-card round if they're able to win the AL West.

Lambert kept Atlanta scoreless through three innings before Matt Olson singled and Michael Harris launched a two-run homer in the fourth. Lambert departed with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth, but AJ Blubaugh escaped the jam to keep Lambert's line intact. Lambert is winless in his last 12 starts, going 0-5 with a 4.43 ERA and 1.37 WHIP across 65 innings in that stretch. He's expected to make his next start on the road against the Athletics on Thursday.
