The Astros released Velazquez on Tuesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Velazquez is expected to sign with a team in Asia, and the Astros will now have another 40-man roster spot to work with. The 27-year-old slashed .188/.257/.406 with six home runs across 52 regular-season contests between the Cardinals and Astros in 2026.

Velazquez went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Monday's 6-3 win over the White Sox.
Velazquez rocketed a 109.1 mph two-run homer in the fourth inning to give the Astros a 3-2 advantage. The long ball marked the 27-year-old's first hit with the club, snapping an 0-for-11 start to his time in Houston. The Astros signed Velazquez to a major-league contract Monday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Velazquez cleared waivers Sunday after being designated for assignment by the Astros on Thursday. He was originally outrighted to Triple-A Sugar Land, but Velazquez will rejoin the Astros' 26-man roster to provide the team with depth in the outfield. In a corresponding move, Raynel Delgado was optioned to Sugar Land.

The Astros outrighted Velazquez to Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday.
Velazquez has been outrighted before, giving him the right decline the Astros' outright assignment if he wants. If the 27-year-old stick around, he will provide additional outfield depth at Sugar Land. Velazquez has slashed .205/.273/.410 with four home runs across 37 games in the majors this season between the Cardinals and Astros.

The Astros designated Velazquez for assignment Thursday.
Velazquez will end up as the necessary roster casualty needed to make room for Raynel Delgado, who was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday. Velazquez went 0-for-4 with a sacrifice fly during his 10-day stint with the Astros but owns a .764 OPS across 163 plate appearances in the minors this season.

The Astros claimed Velazquez off waivers from the Cardinals on Monday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Velazquez had been booted off the Cardinals' 40-man roster this past weekend after slashing .216/.289/.432 with four home runs over 83 plate appearances. The 27-year-old is a candidate to get some starts in the outfield against left-handed pitching.
