  • Pearson allowed one hit and one walk while striking out one over a scoreless inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Diamondbacks.

Pearson wasn't all that sharp, but he was still able to protect the three-run lead. He's riding an 11.1-inning scoreless streak, a span in which he has earned two saves and four holds while working as part of the Royals' closing committee. On the year, Pearson has a 2.03 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 35:19 K:BB through 40 innings between the Royals and the Astros. He has added four saves and five holds.

  • Pearson earned the save Friday against the Tigers after pitching a scoreless ninth inning, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out one.

Pearson was handed a three-run lead in the ninth and worked around some late traffic to secure Kansas City's sixth consecutive victory. The right-hander allowed two runners to reach but stranded both, striking out Dillon Dingler to end the game and collect his third save of the season. Pearson owns a 2.56 ERA and has worked his way into high-leverage situations for the Royals. Since joining Kansas City on July 22, Pearson has posted a 0.77 ERA and 0.86 WHIP with a 10:5 K:BB across 11.2 innings, recording two holds and going 2-for-3 in save opportunities.

  • Pearson secured the save against the Cubs on Saturday, allowing no runs on one hit and no walks in one innings. He struck out two.

It's worth noting Steven Cruz, who seemed to have taken over as Kansas City's favorite for saves lately, worked ahead of Pearson on Saturday in the eighth inning for a hold. Pearson has handled a save opportunity in back-to-back appearances, suggesting he's in the conversation for high-leverage work. Through 25.2 innings for the Royals and Astros, the right-hander has a 2.81 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 20:14 K:BB with two saves in three chances.

  • The Royals acquired Pearson from the Astros on Wednesday in exchange for Max Martin.

Pearson had been designated for assignment by Houston, but he will now join a 40-man roster in a new organization. The hard-throwing righty holds a 3.60 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 16:12 K:BB in 20 innings in the majors this season. Pearson does not have any minor-league options remaining, so he will join the Royals' bullpen.

  • Houston designated Pearson for assignment on Sunday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The 29-year-old will lose his spot on the 40-man roster after he turned in a 3.60 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 16:12 K:BB in 20 innings while serving as a middle-relief option for Houston. The Astros called up infielder Raynel Delgado from Triple-A Sugar Land to take Pearson's spot on the 26-man active roster.
