Latest news

  • The Red Sox traded Eaton to the Athletics on Thursday in exchange for minor-league pitcher Jareth Rayo, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

Eaton appeared in 24 games for the Red Sox this season, going 8-for-50 (.160) at the plate while tallying six RBI, four runs scored and two steals. He had a bit more success in the minors to the tune of a .254/.338/.412 slash line over 363 plate appearances, and he'll likely compete for a spot on the Athletics' Opening Day roster in 2027.

  • The Red Sox recalled Eaton from Triple-A Worcester on Sunday.

Eaton will return to provide outfield depth for Game 162 of the regular season, though he seems unlikely to be on Boston's playoff roster. The 29-year-old has slashed just .146/.293/.250 with one home run and two steals in 58 major-league plate appearances this season.

  • The Red Sox optioned Eaton to Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

With Ceddanne Rafaela (quadriceps) returning to the active roster, Eaton loses his spot to close the regular season. Eaton went 3-for-16 across nine games during his latest stint in the majors. He has put up nine homers and 18 steals in 84 games with Worcester this season, but his overall numbers at the Triple-A level are not particularly impressive for a 29-year-old.

  • Boston recalled Eaton from Triple-A Worcester on Sunday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

In a stint with the big-league club from mid-June to mid-July earlier this season, Eaton slashed just .125/.282/.281 with one homer, five RBI and two stolen bases over 14 games. He's been a bit better in the minors, posting a .756 OPS across 363 plate appearances while swiping 19 bags for Worcester. Eaton's call-up is a corresponding move to Ceddanne Rafaela (quadriceps) being placed on the 10-day IL.

  • The Red Sox optioned Eaton to Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Since going 3-for-4 with two doubles June 23 in Colorado, Eaton has been mired in an 0-for-20 slump and will make his way off the major-league roster. Jahmai Jones was acquired from the Tigers to round out the Red Sox's bench unit.

  • Eaton will begin serving a two-game suspension Tuesday, Sean McAdam of MassLive.com reports.

Major League Baseball initially issued Eaton a three-game ban for his role in the bench-clearing altercation between the Red Sox and Nationals last Tuesday, but his suspension has been cut down to two games following an appeal. He'll be eligible to return for Thursday's series finale against the White Sox.
