  • The Blue Jays declined Straw's $8 million club option for the 2027 season Monday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Straw will head to free agency after slashing .241/.304/.342 with three home runs, 26 RBI, 44 runs scored, seven stolen bases and a 27:44: BB:K across 330 plate appearances in 2026. The 32-year-old still provides value on defense and on the basepaths, but he's never packed much of a punch with the bat.

  • Straw isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Orioles.

Straw will move to the bench for the third time in four games despite going 6-for-18 since the beginning of September. Rudy Martin will start in left field and bat ninth.

  • Straw is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.

Straw will take a seat for the series finale, but he may have at least pushed his way into a timeshare in the outfield with Jesus Sanchez. The Blue Jays kept Sanchez on the bench for all but one of the previous seven games, while Straw was included in the lineup for the other six. The speedy outfielder is slashing .241/.309/.366 since the All-Star break, and while his .675 OPS during that span slightly trails Sanchez's .693 mark, Straw provides superior defense.

  • Straw is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals.

Straw had started in each of the previous five games, but he'll likely have to settle for a reserve role against most right-handed pitchers while George Springer, Jesus Sanchez, Brett Bateman and Nathan Lukes are available to fill out the outfield and designated-hitter spots. The 31-year-old Straw has provided value with his speed and defense but is slashing just .217/.272/.332 over 260 plate appearances on the season.

  • Straw will start in center field and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Yankees.

Straw will stay in the lineup for a fourth straight game, but he's mostly benefited from the Blue Jays facing three left-handed starting pitchers during that stretch. The trio of Jesus Sanchez, Brett Bateman and Nathan Lukes still appears to be locked in as the Blue Jays' preferred outfield configuration against right-handed pitching.

  • Straw is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox.

With George Springer (shoulder) returning to action Monday and with trade-deadline pickup Brett Bateman having settled in as the main replacement in center field for the departed Daulton Varsho, Straw looks poised to serve as a fourth outfielder for Toronto. Straw had started in eight of the Blue Jays' first nine games of August, going 7-for-32 (.219 average) with four doubles, one triple, one walk, one stolen base, four runs and one RBI.
