White Sox general manager Chris Getz said Tuesday that the club began discussing a contract extension with Murakami's representation in late summer and those talks are ongoing, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports.
Murakami is set to earn $17.5 million in 2027 after inking a two-year, $34 million contract with the White Sox last offseason. However, it sounds like both sides have interest in an extension that would keep the Japanese slugger in Chicago long term. The 26-year-old slashed .207/.347/.478 with 35 home runs over 127 regular-season contests for the White Sox in 2026, but he also had a 35.4 percent strikeout rate and hit only .156/.299/.375 in the final two months of the regular season.

Murakami went 3-for-4 with two homers, three RBI and a strikeout during Friday's 6-1 win over the Rockies.
Murakami connected for his first multi-homer game since July 26. The Japanese first baseman took Tomoyuki Sugano deep in the first and seventh innings. The 26-year-old Murakami extended his on-base streak to 13 games after reaching base three times. For the season, Murakami is batting .209/.351/.483 with 35 homers and 77 RBI in 544 plate appearances.

Murakami extended his on-base streak to 10 games after reaching base twice Tuesday. The 26-year-old smashed his 33rd blast in the seventh off Tony Gonsolin to provide some insurance for the White Sox. Over 531 plate appearances, Murakami has batted .203/.348/.469 with 33 homers, 72 RBI and 91 walks this season.

Murakami supplied all of the White Sox's runs with his first-inning homer off Framber Valdez. Later in the game, Murakami hit the first triple of his big-league career. The corner infielder hasn't been known for speed this year, adding just one stolen base on four attempts.
