Angels interim general manager John Mozeliak said Monday that Trout approached him about playing left field and designated hitter next season, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Trout logged 109 starts in center field and 33 at DH in 2026, but defensive metrics were again unkind as the 35-year-old finished with a minus-5 in Outs Above Average, per Baseball Savant. The three-time American League MVP's 142 games played in 2026 marked his highest total since 2016, but he was more good than great offensively, slashing .242/.382/.421 with 22 home runs, 54 RBI and 11 steals.

Trout is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
With nothing left to play for in 2026, Trout will sit having already logged 633 plate appearances this season, his most since 2016. Zach Neto will serve as the designated hitter Sunday while Oswald Peraza mans shortstop and bats seventh against right-hander Logan Gilbert.

Trout went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Athletics.
Trout's up to 22 homers on the year, though he's hit just two over his last 39 contests. He's batting .273 in that span compared to .247 overall, so it appears he sacrificed a bit of power for more consistent contact in the second half of the campaign. Trout has added an .815 OPS, 54 RBI, 85 runs scored, 26 doubles and 11 stolen bases over 139 contests, which is the most games he's played in a campaign since he logged 140 in 2018.

Trout went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs scored in Tuesday's 9-7 loss to the Athletics.
Trout has hit .273 (18-for-66) in September, though he has just four multi-hit efforts over 19 contests this month. The outfielder has also drawn 14 walks to bolster his on-base numbers. For the season, he's batting .245 with an .808 OPS, 21 home runs, 53 RBI, 84 runs scored, 26 doubles and 11 stolen bases across 138 contests.

Trout (hand) will start at designated hitter and bat second in Sunday's game against the Pirates, Erica Weston of Angels Broadcast Television reports.
Trout was lifted for a pinch runner after being hit by a pitch in the left hand during the top of the ninth inning of Saturday's 6-1 win, but his removal appears to have been mostly precautionary. X-rays on his hand following the game returned negative, and any soreness or swelling Trout might have experienced seems to have subsided enough for him to swing the bat without issue in Sunday's series finale. He'll get a day as the Angels' DH but will likely return to his usual spot in center field Monday in Boston.

Trout was removed from Saturday's game versus Pittsburgh after being hit by a pitch on the hand, Erica Weston of Angels Broadcast Television reports.
Trout went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI over his first four plate appearances before being hit on the hand with a pitch in the top of the ninth inning. The veteran outfielder was then replaced by Jose Siri on the basepaths. Trout underwent X-rays on his hand that came back clean, per Weston. It's not yet clear if Trout will be in the lineup Sunday for the series finale.
