Atlanta re-signed Handley to a minor-league contract Saturday.
Atlanta released Handley on Friday, but he was a free agent for just one day before opting to return to the organization. He'll serve as catching depth at Triple-A Gwinnett while Austin Wynns and Sandy Leon are needed at the big-league level until Drake Baldwin (oblique) and Sean Murphy (finger) return from the injured list.

Atlanta released Handley on Friday.
Handley was claimed off waivers from Baltimore on May 21 and was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett, where he played in five games over the past couple weeks. The journeyman catcher has a .324/.415/.382 slash line in 41 plate appearances in the minor leagues this season.

Atlanta claimed Handley off waivers from the Orioles on Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A Gwinnett.
With both Drake Baldwin (oblique) and Sean Murphy (finger) on the injured list, Atlanta is a bit thin at catcher at the moment, so the team will bring in Handley to provide some extra depth at the position. He'll report to Triple-A and would likely join the big club only if an injury strikes another backstop. Hurston Waldrep (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day IL in a corresponding move.

Baltimore recalled Handley from Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old was elevated to Baltimore as the corresponding move for Dylan Beavers (oblique) being placed on the 10-day IL. Handley will be the third catcher on Baltimore's 26-man roster, providing some insurance with Samuel Basallo regularly starting as the designated hitter.
