Latest news

  • The Tigers transferred Vierling (adductor/heel) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Vierling initially landed on the IL on July 31 due to a left adductor strain. He then suffered a heel injury in late August, and the pair of issues will result in Vierling being ruled out for the remainder of the regular season. He could theoretically return for the playoffs, but that might be a moot point with Detroit currently 6.5 games back of a wild-card spot.

  • Vierling (adductor) encountered a setback recently when he suffered a heel injury, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Vierling landed on the 10-day injured list in late July with an adductor strain, and he now has a new injury to contend with. The 29-year-old will likely need a rehab assignment before being activated, and there is no timeline for his return.

  • The Tigers placed Vierling on the 10-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Thursday, due to a left adductor strain.

Vierling tweaked his adductor during Wednesday's game against the Orioles. The injury is severe enough for him to go on the IL, and the Tigers will have a better sense of Vierling's return timeline once he's cleared to resume baseball activities. Max Clark's contract was selected from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move, and the 21-year-old outfielder will make his major-league debut against the Athletics on Friday.

  • Vierling left Wednesday's game against the Orioles due to groin tightness, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Vierling suffered the injury after legging out a triple in the fifth inning. The Tigers will take a closer look at him during the team's off day Thursday, at which point more will be known regarding his status for the weekend series against the A's.

  • Vierling was removed from Wednesday's contest versus the Orioles with an undisclosed injury, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Vierling came up gimpy while legging out a triple in the fifth inning and was removed for a pinch runner. The Tigers should have more on his condition shortly. Vierling contributed a double and a triple in his two plate appearances before exiting.

  • Vierling is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.

After a stretch of four consecutive starts, Vierling finds himself on the bench for a second day in a row. The right-handed-hitting outfielder should still have a path to making regular starts versus lefties, but his opportunities to play against righties could become more limited now that Detroit has one fewer lineup spot available after Gleyber Torres (oblique) was reinstated from the injured list Monday.
