  • Shaw went 1-for-4 with a walk, a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 17-3 win over the Brewers.

Playing all nine innings for the first time since returning from the injured list Friday, Shaw also hit his first home run since June and just his fifth of the season. The 24-year-old missed two months due to a sprained left hand, but now that he's back, he gives the Cubs a versatile option to use across the field. Shaw's playing time may be too inconsistent to move the needle for fantasy managers in the short term, however.

  • The Cubs activated Shaw (hand) from the 10-day injured list Friday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

A sprained left hand has kept Shaw sidelined since late June, but the 24-year-old has been cleared to return after going 10-for-33 with two doubles and two stolen bases in nine rehab games at Triple-A Iowa. Shaw will contend primarily with Michael Conforto and Pedro Ramirez for playing time, but as the only purely right-handed hitter of the group (Ramirez is a switch hitter) he could be relegated to reps versus lefties.

  • Shaw (hand) is scheduled to embark on a rehab assignment Wednesday with Triple-A Iowa, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports.

Shaw was cleared to resume his hitting program in early August after suffering a setback during his recovery from a left hand sprain. The additional rest appears to have paid off, and assuming Monday's workout goes well, Shaw will take the next step in his rehab program by starting an assignment in Triple-A.

  • The Cubs announced Monday that Shaw recently resumed light hitting while rehabbing his sprained left hand in Arizona, MLB.com reports.

Shaw has returned to Chicago to continue his recovery program, but it's unclear how close he might be to heading out on a minor-league rehab assignment. The 24-year-old appeared to have settled in as a near-everyday player before suffering the hand injury, and he should have a path to reclaiming a regular spot in the lineup once he's back to full strength after the Cubs made no major additions in the infield or outfield prior to Monday's trade deadline.

  • Shaw is still feeling discomfort related to his left hand sprain and has yet to resume swinging a bat, Vinnie Duber of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Shaw has been sidelined by his sprained hand since late June, and he likely will remain without a timeline to return until he's able to swing a bat without any pain. In the meantime, Seiya Suzuki should continue to receive the majority of the starts in right field, with Michael Conforto and Kevin Alcantara getting occasional reps.

  • Shaw (hand) won't be activated from the injured list until after the All-Star break, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports.

Shaw landed on the injured list June 29 due to a sprained left hand. The initial expectation was that the 24-year-old could return when first eligible July 9, but he's now slated to miss at least a bit more time than that. Seiya Suzuki, Michael Conforto and Kevin Alcantara have all gotten starts in right field since Shaw went down.
