  • Atlanta manager Walt Weiss said Friday that Perez (back) will not be available for the NLDS against the Dodgers, Aiden Stepansky of MLB.com reports.

Perez isn't eligible to return from his lower-back inflammation until Game 3 of the NLDS on Tuesday, but he will not be activated at any point during the series. It's possible the lefty will be an option for the NLCS, should Atlanta advance, but it's unclear whether Perez has even done any throwing since the injury.

  • Atlanta placed Perez on the 15-day injured list Thursday with lower-back inflammation, Jesus Cano of The Athletic reports.

Perez battled control issues during his last start Sunday against Houston, and the back injury may help to explain his struggles. The move to the injured list will rule him out through the beginning of the NLDS, and he'll close the book on the regular season with a 3.04 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 102:62 K:BB over 142 innings.

  • Perez didn't factor into the decision Sunday against Houston, striking out two while allowing one run on six hits and two walks in 4.1 innings.

Perez had a hard time finding the zone Sunday, landing only 45 of his 79 pitches for strikes, but he kept Houston in check with eight groundouts. The veteran southpaw has been a serviceable member of the Atlanta rotation, giving up two earned runs or fewer in eight of his last 10 outings. Perez, who has a quality 3.04 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 102:62 K:BB over 142 innings, is scheduled to finish his regular season in Miami.

  • Perez (9-9) earned the win Tuesday against the Cubs after allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and four walks while striking out two over six innings.

Perez worked around traffic while Atlanta's offense took time to get going, falling behind 3-0 through four innings. The veteran kept the Cubs scoreless over his final two frames, however, giving Atlanta an opportunity to rally on Ronald Acuna's two-run homer in the sixth and Ozzie Albies' go-ahead shot in the seventh. The victory was the 100th of Perez's career, and he lowered his ERA to 3.07 through 28 starts. He's been pitching well lately and has given up two earned runs or fewer in four of his last five outings, posting a 2.73 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in that stretch.

  • Perez took a no-decision Thursday against Tampa Bay, allowing four hits and two walks in seven scoreless innings. He struck out four.

Perez outdueled Nick Martinez on Thursday, scattering four singles across seven sterling frames. The southpaw showed signs of rust his last time out while pitching on extra rest, coughing up four runs over 3.2 innings in Philadelphia on Saturday, so it was encouraging to see him rebound in response after a normal between-starts protocol. He'll carry a 3.08 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 98:56 K:BB through 131.2 innings into his next scheduled appearance in Chicago against the Cubs.
