Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that Garcia could play some second base next season, and third base is a possibility, as well, YES Network reports.
Second base was Garcia's primary position for his first five major-league seasons, but he consistently graded as a poor defender and in 2026 made a full-time move to first base, where he graded out as above average. The Yankees have a clear opening at second base, and potentially third base, as well. While it seems unlikely Garcia would play either of those spots on a full-time basis, he could be used there enough to regain eligibility in fantasy leagues. Garcia slashed .277/.309/.521 with 30 home runs and 92 RBI over 147 regular-season games between the Nationals and Yankees in 2026. He will be eligible for salary arbitration for a final time this winter.

Garcia went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run against Colorado in a 10-3 win Thursday.
Garcia gave New York a quick lead with a two-run homer to center field in the first inning. It was his second homer in as many days and his seventh through 32 contests since joining the Yankees at the trade deadline. Garcia is batting a hearty .299 during his time with New York and has added six doubles, 17 runs, 15 RBI and one stolen base. He's at 30 homers and 91 RBI overall this year, both of which are already career-best marks.

Garcia is absent from Friday's lineup against the Red Sox.
With Boston sending out southpaw Patrick Sandoval, the left-handed-hitting Garcia will have the night off Friday. Paul Goldschmidt will lead off and man first base while Ben Rice bats second and acts as the designated hitter for the Yankees.

Garcia went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and two additional runs in a 9-3 victory versus Houston on Wednesday.
Garcia put the finishing touches on an emphatic New York win with his two-run blast to right field in the eighth inning. It was the infielder's second straight game with a long ball, and he's now gone deep four times across his past six contests. Garcia has slashed an incredible .524/.583/1.143 during that span, so he's as hot as any player in baseball at the moment. He's up to 28 homers and 87 runs batted in on the campaign, with the RBI mark good for seventh-most in the majors.

Garcia went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and two additional runs scored in Wednesday's 9-3 win over Houston.
Garcia added to his recent power surge Wednesday, going deep for the fourth time in his last six games. Additionally, the slugging first baseman has racked up at least three hits on three occasions during that period. Over 79 plate appearances since being traded the Yankees at the deadline, Garcia is slashing .306/.354/.569 with five long balls, four doubles, 11 RBI and 11 runs scored.

Garcia went 4-for-5 with a two-run home run, an RBI double and an additional run scored during Tuesday's 9-7 loss to the Astros.
Garcia tied a season high in hits Tuesday, with his third hit being a two-run long ball off Ethan Pecko to give the Yankees a 5-3 lead in the fifth inning. Since being acquired by the Yankees from the Nationals in early August, Garcia has an .860 OPS with four home runs and nine RBI over 74 plate appearances.
