  • The Giants placed Webb on the 15-day injured list Friday with a right middle finger blister, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Manager Tony Vitello said last weekend that the Giants would consider shutting Webb down after he allowed 16 earned runs in 13 innings over his last three starts. With the team out of the playoff chase and Webb now dealing with a blister, the 29-year-old's season will officially come to an early end. He'll finish 2026 with a 4.31 ERA -- his worst mark since 2020 -- and a 1.17 WHIP across 160.2 innings. Duncan Davitt was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • Giants manager Tony Vitello said Sunday that the Giants will have a conversation about whether to shut Webb down for the remainder of the campaign, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Webb had another rough outing Sunday, allowing six runs on eight hits over five innings in a loss to the Padres to fall to 8-8 on the campaign. The veteran hurler has posted a 9.86 ERA over his past five starts and may be wearing down, as Pavlovic notes Webb's season started early because of his participation in the World Baseball Classic. San Francisco's conversation about shutting Webb down is likely connected to the team being mathematically eliminated from the playoffs with a 62-88 record.

  • Webb allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out eight over six innings in a no-decision Monday versus the Cardinals.

Webb was tagged for 16 runs over 10.2 innings across his previous three starts. He was able to put forth a much better effort Monday, though he's now winless in four straight outings. On the year, Webb has a 4.10 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 127:40 K:BB across 155.2 innings over 26 starts. He is projected to make his next start at St. Louis next week, assuming the Giants operate with a six-man rotation to offset the injuries that have piled up late in the season.

  • Webb escaped with a no-decision in Tuesday's wild 13-12 loss to the Pirates, surrendering nine runs on nine hits and two walks over two-plus innings. He struck out one.

Pittsburgh put nine runs on the board in the third inning without getting any extra-base hits, chasing Webb from the game after seven straight batters reached base on five singles and two walks. It was his shortest outing of the season, and the nine runs allowed were a career worst for the right-hander. Webb is struggling to get to the finish line in 2026 -- he's failed to last three frames in two of his last three starts, with his ERA rising from 3.50 to 4.21 during that rough stretch. He'll try to turn things around in his next trip to the mound, which is set to come on the road this weekend against the Mets.

  • Webb didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 10-9 loss to the Reds, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out six.

The right-hander produced his 16th quality start of the season on 97 pitches (64 strikes) and seemed comfortably on his way to his ninth win of the season until the Giants' bullpen imploded in the ninth inning and squandered a 9-3 lead. Webb has delivered quality starts in six of eight outings since the All-Star break, posting a 3.42 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 38:10 K:BB over 47.1 innings during that span. He'll look to stay locked in for his next trip to the mound, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in Atlanta.

  • Webb will start Wednesday's game against the Reds, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The Giants have decided to flip-flop Webb and Landen Roupp, who will now take the ball Thursday versus the Diamondbacks. Webb will be starting on regular rest after throwing 70 pitches over 2.2 ineffective innings his last time out against the Red Sox.
