  • Taveras cleared waivers and elected to become a free agent Monday.

Taveras had one more year of arbitration eligibility, but the Orioles will allow him to look for work elsewhere rather than giving him a raise on the $2 million he earned in 2026. The 28-year-old appeared in 139 games for the Orioles and slashed .219/.288/.345 with eight home runs, 56 RBI, 58 runs scored, 11 stolen bases and a 41:124 BB:K across 482 trips to the plate.

  • Taveras is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians.

Taveras will hit the bench for the third time in six games as the Orioles kick off a three-game set against the Guardians. Even though Luis Robert's (hamstring) recent move to the injured list has eased the logjam in the Baltimore outfield a bit, Taveras could still be in store for a part-time role if the Orioles elect to prioritize Blaze Alexander in right field ahead of him.

  • Taveras went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk, three RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Athletics.

Taveras drove in more than half of his team's runs in the win, belting a ground-rule RBI double in the third inning and adding a two-run double in the sixth. The veteran outfielder has gone just 5-for-21 over his past five games, but he's knocked in a hearty eight runs with three extra-base hits during that span. On the season, Taveras is slashing .227/.299/.363 with eight homers, 15 doubles, six triples, 53 runs, 52 RBI and 11 stolen bases over 424 plate appearances.

  • Taveras went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's 8-7 win over the Cardinals.

Taveras' homer was part of a five-run first inning for the Orioles. Coming into Wednesday, the outfielder had just one extra-base hit over his prior 11 games, going 10-for-39 (.256) at the plate in that span. For the season, he's batting .228 with a .662 OPS, eight homers, 49 RBI, 52 runs scored, 13 doubles, six triples and 10 stolen bases through 116 contests. Taveras' playing time has trended up lately, and it should remain consistent as he takes over the starting job in right field in the absence of Tyler O'Neill (shoulder), who landed on the injured list Wednesday.

  • Taveras is absent from the lineup for Monday's game in Tampa Bay.

Taveras had started the last four and nine of the past 10 contests, but he will begin Monday's tilt on the bench. Jeremiah Jackson, Christian Franklin and Tyler O'Neill will patrol the outfield for the Orioles.

  • Taveras will start in right field and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Rangers.

Trade-deadline pickup Christian Franklin started the first two games this week, but Taveras has now gotten the nod in each of the ensuing four contests. Taveras has gone just 2-for-10 with a double, a walk and a run scored so far in that stretch, so he still has some work to do before solidifying himself as a part of the everyday lineup.
