Latest news

  • Bubic allowed one hit and struck out two batters over one scoreless inning in a loss to Cincinnati on Wednesday.

Bubic's appearance was his first in the majors since Los Angeles acquired him in a trade with Kansas City in early August. The veteran lefty looked good Wednesday, throwing 13 of 19 pitches for strikes and hitting 95.9 mph with his fastball, well above his season average of 91.8 mph (with the caveat that his other nine outings were starts). Bubic has less than two weeks to get settled in before the playoffs, but he could be deployed as a bullpen weapon for the Dodgers during the postseason.

  • The Dodgers activated Bubic (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Bubic hasn't pitched in the majors since mid-May when he was in the Royals' rotation. The Dodgers will deploy him as a reliever after he tossed 5.2 shutout frames with a 9:2 K:BB in six rehab appearances. Bubic is coming back from elbow and shoulder woes.

  • Bubic (shoulder) will join the Dodgers in Cincinnati on Monday but will not be activated from the 60-day injured list immediately, Maddie Lee of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Bubic completed his rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday, and he wound up tossing 5.2 shutout frames with a 9:2 K:BB in six rehab outings. He will rest a bit before being activated as soon as Wednesday. Acquired from the Royals at the trade deadline, Bubic hasn't pitched in the majors since mid-May, first due to an elbow injury and later because of a shoulder problem. When Bubic does return, he'll be used in a relief role by the Dodgers.

  • Bubic (shoulder) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, striking out two in a perfect inning.

Bubic initially went down with left elbow soreness in mid-May and had to be pulled off an initial rehab assignment due to left shoulder discomfort. His outing Tuesday was his first in more than two months, but he looked sharp. Bubic was acquired by the Dodgers at the trade deadline and is aiming to help out as a reliever down the stretch.

  • Bubic (shoulder/elbow) is hoping to begin a minor-league rehab assignment around early September, MLB.com reports.

Bubic resumed a throwing progression while still with Kansas City in late July and was traded to the Dodgers on Aug. 3. The veteran hurler is continuing to try to work his way back from left shoulder discomfort and left elbow soreness, which has kept him on the IL since mid-May. Given the length of his absence, Bubic will almost certainly need to make several rehab appearances when he's ready to get into game action, which means that activation from the IL is unlikely to happen before mid-September. With that in mind, and given the Dodgers' deep rotation when healthy, the likeliest scenario for the left-hander to contribute to his new team this season is as a long-relief and/or emergency-starter option down the stretch and into the playoffs.

  • The Dodgers acquired Bubic (shoulder/elbow) from the Royals on Monday in exchange for right-hander Carlos Duran, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Though the Dodgers don't appear to have any room in the rotation after acquiring Tarik Skubal over the weekend and with Blake Snell (elbow) and Tyler Glasnow (back) nearing returns from the injured list, the organization didn't pass up on the chance to add another talented arm in Bubic to its deep stable of hurlers. Like Snell and Glasnow, Bubic is currently rehabbing an injury, though he doesn't appear to be nearly as close to coming back from the shelf and may not have enough time to get stretched back out for a starting role. According to MLB.com, Bubic increased his throwing distance off flat ground to 80 feet last week, so he could be a realistic option for the Dodgers at some point in the second half of August if they elect to bring him back as a reliever, per Jack Harris of the California Post. Bubic -- who is headed for free agency this winter -- submitted a 4.11 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 51:26 K:BB across 50.1 innings in nine starts this season before being deactivated May 18 due to left shoulder discomfort and left elbow soreness.
