The Tigers declined Jansen's $12 million club option for the 2027 season Monday.
After signing a one-year deal with Detroit last winter, Jansen went on to record 22 saves with a 3.20 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 51:23 K:BB across 45 innings in 2026. Jansen, who turned 39 shortly after the end of the regular season, now sits third on the all-time saves leaderboard. Jansen will likely have to settle for another one-year deal this offseason.

Jansen struck out two batters in a clean ninth inning to earn the save in Friday's 8-7 win over the Pirates.
Jansen was sharp in this one, sitting the Pirates down on 13 pitches to secure his 22nd save of the year while striking out multiple batters for the first time since Sept. 12. The veteran righty is closing out his season on a positive note, as he's rattled off 12 straight appearances without allowing an earned run. Jansen is on a one-year deal with Detroit with a team option for 2027, so it remains to be seen if he'll be back with the Tigers, though he certainly still seems capable of pitching at a high level even at the age of 38.

Jansen earned the save in Friday's 11-8 win over the White Sox, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning.
Jansen was called on to protect a three-run lead in the ninth inning and retired the heart of the White Sox order to close things out. The veteran closer has now gone 10 straight appearances without allowing an earned run and owns a 1.86 ERA overall in 19.1 second-half innings. For the season, he's 21-for-27 in save chances with a 3.35 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 49:23 K:BB across 43 frames.

Jansen worked around a walk to toss a scoreless ninth inning and record the save in Monday's 6-5 win over the Blue Jays. He struck out one.
The veteran closer continued his strong recent stretch of performances, as he's now logged nine straight scoreless outings with four saves during that span. Overall, Jansen is up to 20 saves in 26 chances this season, and it's the 14th time he's recorded 20 or more saves during his illustrious career. The 38-year-old righty isn't the dominant force he once was, and it's unclear if he'll be back with the Tigers next season as the team holds an option, but Jansen has still managed to provide fantasy value at his advanced age.

Jansen struck out the only batter he faced Friday to record his 19th save of the season in a 6-2 win over the Rockies.
Brant Hurter ran into trouble in the ninth inning, forcing Jansen into the game with two outs and the potential tying run on deck, and the veteran closer got the job done by fanning Connor Norby on just four pitches. Jansen has been mostly dialed in since the All-Star break, and over his last 16.1 innings and 18 appearances he's put together a 2.20 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 20:9 K:BB with three wins and eight saves.

Jansen worked around a walk to pitch a clean ninth inning and secure the save in Monday's 5-4 win over the Twins.
Jansen needed 11 pitches to sit the Twins down and secure his 18th save of the season. The veteran reliever has now rattled off six straight appearances without allowing an earned run, lowering his ERA to 3.63. Jansen is far from the dominant option he was earlier in his career, and he's liable for a rough outing here and there due to diminished stuff, though he's in no real danger of getting replaced as the closer in Detroit.
