Thompson passed through waivers unclaimed after being booted from the Rockies' 40-man roster. The righty has been outrighted previously, which means he could decline the assignment and elect free agency, but it's unclear whether Thompson will exercise that right. He's yielded 11 runs over 12 innings in the majors this season.

Thompson was removed from the 40-man roster just before Opening Day, but he stayed in the organization and has made his way back to the big leagues. The righty has authored a 3.34 ERA and 19:10 K:BB over 32.1 innings covering five starts and six relief outings with Albuquerque.

Thompson was designated for assignment by the Rockies on Wednesday, but he will remain in the organization in Triple-A after clearing waivers. He last saw major-league action in 2024 with the Cubs before spending the entire 2025 campaign with Triple-A Iowa, where he posted a 4.43 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 85:26 K:BB across 65 innings. Thompson could see some action with Colorado this season should the team require an additional arm out of the bullpen.
