  • The Astros optioned Teng to Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday.

Teng has had a rough go of late, giving up six runs with a 2:3 K:BB over his past 3.1 innings spanning three appearances. He'll lose his spot in the big-league bullpen to Miguel Ullola, who was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • Teng (5-7) took the loss in relief Tuesday against the White Sox after allowing three runs on three hits and a walk while striking out a batter over two innings.

Teng entered the game in the fifth after Ronel Blanco tossed four scoreless innings and immediately ran into trouble. He hit Sam Antonacci with a pitch and walked Miguel Vargas before Andrew Benintendi broke the scoreless tie with an RBI single. Colson Montgomery followed with a two-run double, leaving Teng responsible for all three runs in the inning. While the right-hander recovered to work a scoreless sixth, he would end up getting tagged with the loss while seeing his ERA rise to 4.66. He's given up multiple earned runs in seven of his last 11 relief appearances dating back to the beginning of June.

  • The Astros recalled Teng from Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Teng was optioned to Sugar Land in late July and worked exclusively out of the bullpen while with the minor-league club, turning in a 3.48 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 15:3 K:BB across 10.1 innings. He'll work in relief for the Astros after making 10 starts for the team earlier this season.

  • The Astros optioned Teng to Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Teng was activated from the injured list in mid-July after missing a few weeks due to a knee sprain, but Houston elected to demote him after just two appearances, during which he gave up two runs on three hits with a 4:2 K:BB and four hit batsmen across 4.1 innings. The right-hander pitched to a 2.19 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 8.8 K/9 through his first 17 outings of the year, but he has a 6.89 ERA across his past eight appearances (31.1 innings).

  • Weng (5-6) earned the win in relief Friday against the White Sox after allowing two runs on two hits and a walk across two innings. He struck out one.

Teng pitched the fourth and fifth innings, as the Astros had to come up with a plan on the spot after Spencer Arrighetti (foot) was taken out of the game following the first inning. Teng has made 10 starts and 15 relief appearances this season, and he could be a candidate to rejoin the rotation if Arrighetti is forced to miss time.

  • Teng struck out three and allowed one hit and one walk across 2.1 innings of relief Sunday in the Astros' 5-2 loss to the Orioles.

Before landing on the injured list July 1 due to a right knee sprain, Teng had started in each of his previous nine appearances with the Astros. However, with the Houston rotation having since reclaimed some health, Teng looks like he'll have to settle for a bullpen role while he's with the big club for the time being. Given that Teng tossed 46 pitches Sunday and likely won't be available in relief for at least the next couple of days, it wouldn't be surprising if the Astros optioned him to Triple-A Sugar Land to clear a spot on the active roster for Ronel Blanco (elbow), who will be activated from the 60-day IL to start Monday versus the Marlins.
