Latest news

  • The Dodgers added Wrobleski to their roster for the NLCS against the Brewers, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports.

The southpaw was left off the roster for the NLDS, but Los Angeles will shore up its pitching staff for the best-of-seven championship series. Wrobleski was a key rotation piece for much of the regular season before coming out of the bullpen for his final six appearances. He posted a 3.66 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 118:31 K:BB across 140 innings.

  • Wrobleski has made his last two appearances out of the Los Angeles bullpen, covering 1.2 innings while striking out one batter and allowing one earned run on four hits in outings Tuesday and Thursday against the Padres.

Wrobleski most recently started Sept. 17 against the Reds and tossed three perfect innings, but the strong performance didn't result in him earning any additional turns through the rotation. With the Dodgers locked in as the No. 2 spot in the National League playoffs heading into Sunday's regular-season finale against the Giants, Wrobleski could be a candidate to cover multiple innings as a starter or bulk reliever as the team aims to rest most of its key pitchers for the postseason.

  • Wrobleski is slated to start Thursday's game against the Reds in Cincinnati, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Wrobleski hasn't worked more than two innings in any of his three appearances since returning from the 15-day injured list Sept. 1, so he's expected to operate as more of an opener than a traditional starter Thursday. The Dodgers plan to recall Landon Knack from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, and he'll likely be called upon to cover multiple frames out of the bullpen once Wrobleski exits the game.

  • Wrobleski struck out a batter and allowed two hits and one walk over two scoreless innings of relief in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Marlins.

After making his previous appearance as a starter Sept. 6 versus the Nationals, Wrobleski shifted back to the bullpen for the Dodgers' weekend series in Miami. He ended up being called upon Saturday in relief of starter Tyler Glasnow, who was chased after yielding four runs across four innings. Assuming the Dodgers elect to maintain a six-man rotation through the end of the season, Wrobleski could have a chance to start or pitch bulk innings again next weekend versus the Giants. The Dodgers reopened a rotation spot after optioning Emmet Sheehan to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Monday.

  • Wrobleski didn't factor in the decision Sunday against the Nationals after giving up four runs on eight hits and one walk over three-plus innings. He struck out six.

The left-hander was shifted to the bullpen upon his return from forearm inflammation Tuesday, but he made just one relief appearance before retaking the mound as a starter with Roki Sasaki (finger) unavailable. Wrobleski opened with three scoreless innings Sunday, but things fell apart in the fourth as he failed to retire any of the five batters he faced. The 26-year-old has surrendered six earned runs across five frames in his two outings since coming off the IL, and he's likely to shift back to the bullpen with Emmet Sheehan rejoining the big-league roster Monday.
