  • Tong didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 7-1 win over the Nationals, allowing one run on three hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out nine.

The nine K's were a career high for the 23-year-old right-hander, but despite the impressive outing, Tong was in line for the loss until the Mets' offense woke up late. Over four September starts to close out the campaign, Tong posted a 3.92 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 27:7 K:BB in 20.2 innings, positioning him for a regular spot in the 2027 rotation if the team doesn't make any major offseason investments in its staff.

  • Tong (2-2) took the loss Sunday against the Phillies, allowing four runs on five hits and four walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out five.

The Phillies got to Tong quickly Sunday, scoring twice in the opening inning and twice in the third. Since returning to New York's rotation earlier this month, Tong's given up nine runs (eight earned) on 13 hits while striking out 18 over three starts (15.2 innings). The right-hander lines up for one more start this season, tentatively scheduled to come on the road next weekend against the Nationals.

  • Tong allowed an unearned run over six innings in a no-decision against Baltimore on Monday. He gave up four hits and one walk while striking out six batters.

Tong yielded a run in the second inning, but he wasn't charged with an earned run since a passed ball contributed to the tally. Outside of that frame, the right-hander gave up just two hits and no runs across his other five innings. Tong racked up 13 whiffs among his 83 pitches and finished with the first quality start of his career. This was just his fifth outing and second start in the majors this year, as the 23-year-old has spent the majority of the campaign with Triple-A Syracuse. Given his performance Monday, Tong is likely to get at least another turn in the rotation. He's next slated to take the mound in a tough home matchup versus Philadelphia.
