  • Duran is absent from the lineup Wednesday for Game 2 of the AL Wild Card Series against the Yankees.

The left-handed-hitting Duran was regularly out of the lineup versus lefty hurlers down the stretch, so it's not a surprise he's sitting out as the Yankees send southpaw Max Fried to the mound. Nate Eaton will play left field, and Jahmai Jones will be Boston's designated hitter in Game 2.

  • Duran went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's 1-0 win over the Guardians.

Duran singled to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning and scored the game's lone run. He later singled and stole second base in the eighth, giving the Red Sox a chance to bring in an insurance run. The steal was the 20th of the season for Duran, who has stolen as least 20 bags in four straight seasons. He also joined the 20-homer/20-steal club for the second time in his career. While his .207 batting average has been a drag, Duran's provided legit fantasy value.

  • Duran is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Rays.

Sitting against left-handed starters has become Duran's new normal, and with lefty Ian Seymour on the mound for Tampa Bay on Friday, Boston will go with Roman Anthony, Nate Eaton and Wilyer Abreu from left to right in the outfield. Duran is batting just .159 with a .463 OPS across 47 trips to the plate this month.

  • Duran is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Duran's tough season continues as he's slashing just .171/.227/.268 in September, bringing him down to .204/.261/.361 for the year. He's nearly gone 20-20 despite those struggles -- he sits one steal shy of 20 -- but it appears his opportunities against lefties will remain limited down the stretch. Roman Anthony, Nate Eaton and Wilyer Abreu will start across the outfield from left to right Wednesday, while Jahmai Jones serves as the DH against southpaw MacKenzie Gore.

  • Duran is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.

It's the sixth straight absence against left-handed starting pitching for Duran, who hasn't been in the lineup versus a southpaw starter since Aug. 8. The 30-year-old has a .641 OPS against left-handed pitching this season, which is actually better than his .619 OPS versus righties. Despite the offensive struggles, Duran has still started every game against right-handed pitching since the start of July. Roman Anthony is handling left field Sunday for Boston, opening up the DH spot for Jahmai Jones.

  • Duran is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Angels, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports.

Duran went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo homer in Monday's series opener to bust out of a 3-for-35 slump, and he'll take a seat Tuesday against Halos lefty Reid Detmers. Roman Anthony will shift to left field while Jahmai Jones picks up a start as the designated hitter.
