  • Irvin (2-10) took the loss Saturday, giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks over five innings of relief as the Nationals were downed 7-1 by the Mets. He struck out six.

Piggybacking with Connelly Early in the southpaw's Washington debut, Irvin inherited a 1-0 lead but couldn't make it hold up, serving up seventh-inning homers to A.J. Ewing and Ronny Mauricio. Irvin ends the campaign having lost all six of his decisions since returning from a shoulder strain in late July, stumbling to a 5.73 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 52:26 K:BB over 55 innings in that span while getting tagged for 13 homers.

  • Irvin took a no-decision Sunday against the Cardinals, striking out eight while allowing two runs on three hits and no walks in 5.1 innings.

Irvin gave up only three knocks on the afternoon, though two of those went for extra bases. The eight punchouts were his most since April 25 against the White Sox, which was also the last time the right-hander didn't issue a walk prior to Sunday. He's lined up to take the ball in the regular-season finale against the division-rival Mets, and he currently holds a 5.40 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 104:46 K:BB across 101.2 innings.

  • Irvin will no longer start Sunday's game against the Angels as previously scheduled and is instead expected to pitch behind opener Riley Cornelio, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.

It will be the first appearance out of the bullpen in Irvin's major-league career. After missing all of June and most of July due to a shoulder injury, the 29-year-old has gone 0-5 with a 5.90 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 32:20 K:BB over 39.2 frames in eight starts since coming off the IL.

  • Irvin (2-9) allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out three batters over 5.2 innings in a loss to San Diego on Monday.

Irvin had a rough beginning to his outing, giving up three runs over the first three innings. However, he clamped down from there and held the Padres scoreless for the remainder of his time in the game. Irvin got very close to a quality start, retiring the first two batters he faced in the sixth before walking Xander Bogaerts, who turned out to be the final batter he faced. The right-hander recorded just nine whiffs among his 102 pitches and notched just three punchouts, but he did manage to give Washington a little more length after tossing fewer than five frames in each of his previous two outings. Irvin is scheduled to next take the mound at home versus the Angels.

  • Irvin allowed two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out five across four innings in a no-decision against Atlanta on Tuesday.

Irvin gave up a solo homer to Ozzie Albies in the second inning before yielding another run in the third. Irvin was pulled in the fifth inning after giving up back-to-back singles without recording an out, and it was a second consecutive outing in which he failed to complete five innings, finishing Tuesday's outing with 86 pitches (57 strikes) and nine whiffs. Irvin is 0-4 over his last seven starts with a 6.09 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 29:18 K:BB over 34 innings. He's lined up to face the Padres next week in what projects to be a two-start week for Irvin.

  • Irvin did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Rockies, allowing a run on three hits and six walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out six.

While he held Colorado to a lone run Thursday, Irvin left the game before he could qualify for the win after he threw 94 pitches (53 strikes) while issuing a season-high six walks. Despite his spotty command, it could still be considered a step in the right direction for Irvin, who had struggled to a 7.01 ERA across 25.2 frames in his previous five starts. Overall, the right-hander is 2-8 with a 5.62 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 82:39 K:BB across 17 starts (81.2 innings) this season. Irvin's currently in line to face Atlanta at home his next time out.
