  • The Tigers signed Waguespack to a one-year, $1.3 million contract Monday.

Detroit acquired Waguespack from the Brewers in June, and the right-hander settled in as a key bullpen piece for the Tigers over the second half of the season. He produced a 2.49 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 35:18 K:BB across 47 innings.

  • Waguespack (2-2) tossed 1.1 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win in Saturday's 4-3 victory over the Pirates. He allowed two hits and struck out two.

In the final start of Justin Verlander's legendary career, it was Waguespack who earned the win out of the bullpen when Eduardo Valencia walked things off with a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Waguespack has quietly put together a strong season with a 2.49 ERA and 0.91 WHIP across 47 innings, though he's only struck out 35 batters. A lack of overpowering stuff will likely keep the righty in a middle-relief role heading into next year, though he's certainly done well in his first MLB action since 2024 after bouncing around the minors in 2025.

  • Waguespack will start Sunday's game against the Royals as an opener, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

It'll be the first start of the season and 15th of Waguespack's MLB career, with most of those coming in 2019 when he was working out of the rotation with Toronto. The right-hander is in the midst of his best big-league campaign with a 1.95 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 16:9 K:BB across 27.2 innings out of the bullpen, though his 4.71 xFIP indicates regression could be on the horizon.

  • Waguespack (1-1) tossed two scoreless innings of relief and earned the win in Tuesday's 6-4 victory over the Guardians. He allowed two hits and a walk.

Drew Anderson, who has mostly worked in relief this season, got the start for Detroit and held his own across four innings. However, he didn't go long enough to qualify for the win, which opened the door for Waguespack, who worked the fifth and sixth. The righty earned his first win in the majors since he won five games as a rookie back in 2019. Waguespack isn't in a super fantasy-friendly role at the moment, but he's pitched well this year with 1.52 ERA and 0.89 WHIP across 23.2 innings out of Detroit's bullpen.

  • Waguespack, who tossed two scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts Monday against the Orioles, now has a 1.47 ERA across 18.1 innings this season.

Waguespack allowed an earned run in his last appearance before Monday, but prior to that, he had rattled off 10 straight scoreless outings. The righty did not pitch in the majors in 2025, and he had a 5.40 ERA in limited action in 2024, so it remains to be seen if he can maintain his current form. As it stands, Waguespack is starting to earn some degree of trust within Detroit's bullpen, and his role could increase accordingly.

  • The Tigers selected Waguespack's contract from Triple-A Toledo on Friday.

The Tigers acquired Waguespack from the Brewers on Wednesday, and the right-hander will operate out of Detroit's bullpen after both Beau Brieske and Zack Short were optioned to Triple-A in corresponding moves. Waguespack has spent the entire 2026 season in Triple-A, where he has a 1.74 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 32:15 K:BB across 20.2 innings. He last saw major-league action in 2024 with the Rays, when he allowed six earned runs on 13 hits and 10 walks while striking out 11 across 10 innings.
