Latest news

  • DeGrom (11-11) took the loss Friday against the Twins after allowing eight runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out five over four innings.

DeGrom matched a season high in runs allowed at the worst possible time, as the Rangers are in a tight race in the AL West. The subpar outing overshadowed the fact that the star hurler recorded his 200th strikeout of the season Friday, reaching the milestone for the first time since 2019. DeGrom made 31 starts this season and has pitched at least 160 innings in back-to-back years for the first time since 2018-19. He finishes the regular season with a 4.20 ERA and 1.14 WHIP across 162.2 frames. If the Rangers make the playoffs, expect deGrom to take the ball in the AL Wild Card Series.

  • DeGrom (11-10) took the loss Sunday against Toronto, striking out two while allowing three runs on five hits and four walks in 4.1 innings.

The veteran right-hander didn't have his best stuff on the mound, matching a season low in punchouts and issuing at least four free passes for the third time this year. It was deGrom's shortest outing since Aug. 25 against the White Sox, breaking up a four-start streak with at least five innings and two or fewer runs allowed. His final appearance of the regular season is set to come in Minnesota, with deGrom carrying a career-worst 3.86 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 196:43 K:BB over 158.2 innings as he searches for his fifth career 200-strikeout campaign.

  • DeGrom (11-9) picked up the win over Boston on Tuesday, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk over five innings. He struck out eight.

DeGrom fanned at least seven batters for the fourth consecutive start by recording eight strikeouts Tuesday. The right-hander made just one mistake, giving up a two-run homer to Nick Sogard in the third inning. Despite the homer, the right-hander has yielded just four runs over his last four starts. This year, the 38-year-old owns a 3.79 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 194:39 K:BB over 154.1 innings. DeGrom is slated to make his next start Sunday against Toronto.

  • DeGrom allowed one hit and struck out 12 batters over six innings in a no-decision against Seattle on Thursday.

DeGrom was downright dominant from the outset, striking out eight of the first nine batters he faced. The veteran hurler racked up 20 whiffs and 12 punchouts overall on a modest 92 pitches. The Mariners put only one runner on base against him, and that came on an infield single in his sixth and final frame. When deGrom departed he was in line for the win, but the Rangers' bullpen let him down and couldn't hold a 3-0 lead. Still, this was a third straight impressive outing by the right-hander following an eight-run, 3.2-inning blowup against the White Sox on Aug. 25. During those subsequent three contests, deGrom has allowed only two runs across 19 frames while posting an incredible 27:1 K:BB. He'll look to keep rolling in his next start, which is slated to be a home tilt versus Boston.

  • DeGrom took a no-decision against the Rays on Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk in six innings. He struck out seven.

That makes it back-to-back starts for deGrom of at least six innings and two runs or fewer allowed. The veteran right-hander did serve up a pair of home runs Saturday, which is a bit surprising after he gave up just one homer in his prior nine outings. He'll try to further improve on a career-worst 3.96 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 174:38 K:BB over 143.1 innings in his next scheduled appearance versus the Diamondbacks.

  • DeGrom (10-9) earned the win Monday, allowing a hit and no walks over seven scoreless innings in an 8-1 win over the Athletics. He struck out eight.

Coming off a disastrous eight-run outing last time out, deGrom looked like his peak self, allowing just one hitter to reach base across seven shutout frames. The 38-year-old continues to rack up strikeouts, as he's now punched out eight-plus batters 10 times this season and boasts a 10.9 K/9. DeGrom will take a 4.00 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 167:37 K:BB across 137.1 innings (26 starts) into his next outing, tentatively scheduled for Saturday against the Rays.
