Latest news

  • Ralston will start Saturday's game against Atlanta in Miami, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports.

The 29-year-old rookie right-hander will be making his first MLB start and his first start at any level of the professional ranks since 2022. Between his stops with Miami and Triple-A Jacksonville this season, Ralston hasn't tossed more than three innings in any outing, so he's unlikely to work more than once through the batting order Saturday before turning the game over to the Marlins bullpen.

  • Ralston (0-2) earned the loss after allowing two runs and on three hits and no walks over 1.1 innings against the Cubs on Thursday. He struck out two.

Ralston came on in relief of Tyler Phillips and allowed the game-tying and eventual game-winning runs. Seiya Suzuki blasted a home run off the right-hander, and then Nico Hoerner lined a go-ahead single in the sixth. Ralston has been scored upon in three of his past five outings. Across 15 appearances this season, he owns a 4.50 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 17:8 K:BB over 16 innings.

  • Ralston (0-1) was charged with a blown save and the loss Monday against the Diamondbacks. He allowed one run on a hit with no walks or strikeouts over one-third of an inning.

After Pete Fairbanks exited with an apparent injury after facing just one batter, Ralston was unexpectedly thrust into action in the ninth inning and faltered, surrendering a walk-off two-run homer to Corbin Carroll. Monday marked Ralston's first big-league save opportunity. Since making his debut Aug. 23, the right-hander has posted a 4.22 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 9:5 K:BB across 10.2 frames. Fairbanks' injury could open the door for other Marlins relievers to receive looks at closer, though Calvin Faucher and Michael Petersen are much more likely than Ralston to factor into the ninth-inning mix.

  • The Marlins recalled Ralston from Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday.

The right-hander was added to Miami's 40-man roster in early August, and he's now on the cusp of making his major-league debut. Ralston has enjoyed a strong season for the Jumbo Shrimp with a 2.04 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 76:30 K:BB across 61.2 innings out of the bullpen.

  • The Marlins selected Ralston's contract on Tuesday and optioned him to Triple-A Jacksonville, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports.

Ralston earned a spot on the 40-man roster after posting a 1.31 ERA and 70:26 K:BB over 55 frames. The 28-year-old will remain in Jacksonville for now, but he could get an opportunity with the big club before the end of the season.
