Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said Thursday that he's informed Realmuto the catcher will receive more days off in 2027, Matt Gelb and Charlotte Varnes of The Athletic report.
He made 122 starts behind the plate in 2026 in his age-35 season. However, his downward trend offensively continued, as Realmuto slashed only .205/.283/.331 with 11 home runs across 467 plate appearances. Dombrowski didn't rule out acquiring an upgrade at backup catcher this offseason, which could allow manager Don Mattingly more confidence in giving Realmuto extra rest.

Realmuto put the Phillies up 2-1 early with a two-run homer in the second inning before contributing to Philadelphia's seven-run eighth with a single that brought Bryson Stott home. Realmuto's three hits tied a season high he set twice prior to Sunday's game, and it was also the fifth time he drove in at least three runs. He has a .654 OPS with three steals, 11 home runs and 49 RBI across 425 plate appearances this season.

Realmuto is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Astros.
It's an afternoon game Thursday after Realmuto had started the last three contests, so it's not a surprise he's getting a breather. Rafael Marchan will do the catching and will bat ninth for the Phillies.

Realmuto is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Realmuto will get a breather after starting the previous four games and going 1-for-13 with two walks and four strikeouts. Garrett Stubbs will step in behind the plate to catch for right-hander Aaron Nola while batting ninth.
