Latest news

  • Wesneski (6-2) allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk while striking out five over seven innings to earn the win Saturday over the Athletics.

Wesneski allowed 13 runs (eight earned) across 28.1 innings over five outings in September. He had gone two appearances without a win prior to his strong regular-season finale. Over 11 starts following his recovery from Tommy John surgery, Wesneski delivered an excellent 3.25 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 46:20 K:BB across 61 innings. There will likely be a spot for him in the postseason rotation if the Astros are able to clinch a spot Sunday.

  • Wesneski didn't factor into the decision Saturday against Atlanta, striking out three while allowing one run on four hits and three walks in 5.1 innings.

Wesneski kept Atlanta off the board until the sixth inning, turning in a strong start Saturday. The right-hander has been pretty reliable lately, either logging a quality start or pitching at least five innings while conceding fewer than two runs in seven of his last nine outings since the beginning of August. His final appearance of the regular season is slated to come against the Athletics in hitter-friendly Sacramento, where he'll carry a respectable 3.50 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 41:19 K:BB over 54 innings.

  • Wesneski (5-2) took the loss against the Rays on Sunday, allowing seven runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts over three innings.

Wesneski yielded three runs in the first inning and was burned by a three-run homer following a two-out error in the third. It ends a string of strong outings for the 28-year-old, who allowed just four earned runs over his previous four turns, with two quality starts. He'll take a 3.70 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 38:16 K:BB across 48.2 innings this season into a home matchup with Atlanta next weekend.

  • Wesneski (5-1) picked up the win Tuesday, giving up three runs on five hits over six innings in a 6-5 victory over the Phillies. He struck out three.

The right-hander carried a shutout into the sixth inning before fading, with a two-run homer by Trea Turner accounting for most of the damage off him, but Wesneski still held on for his fourth quality start of the year in his eighth trip to the mound. Since completing his recovery from Tommy John surgery and making his season debut in late July, Wesneski has produced a 3.35 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 36:14 K:BB over 45.2 innings. He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, which is set to come on the road this weekend in Tampa Bay.

  • Wesneski allowed one hit, two walks and one hit batsman while striking out five over seven scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the White Sox on Wednesday.

Wesneski threw 58 of 90 pitches for strikes while matching his longest outing of the season by innings. He was just alright initially after his return from Tommy John surgery in late July, but he's taken a dominant turn with just one run allowed over his last 17 innings, during which he has a 15:7 K:BB. Wesneski is at a 3.18 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 33:14 K:BB through 39.2 innings over seven starts this year. He's lined up for another challenging matchup early next week in Philadelphia.
