Latest news

  • White Sox general manager Chris Getz said Tuesday that the team has yet to make a decision on whether to deploy Taylor as a starting pitcher or reliever next season, James Fegan of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Getz noted that he believes Taylor will be a starting pitcher in the majors "at some point," but whether that will happen in 2027 is undetermined. Taylor logged a 2.25 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 106:30 K:BB over 84 regular-season innings for the White Sox in 2026 as a reliever and occasional opener. The 24-year-old notched 10 saves during the regular season and another two in the playoffs, and he will likely open 2027 as the team's closer if the White Sox elect to keep him in the bullpen. However, Taylor has loads of upside as a starting pitcher, and if the White Sox intend to make the role shift, next season might be the time to do it.

  • Taylor earned the save in Game 2 of the ALDS against the Guardians on Monday. He was charged with no runs and allowed one hit with no walks or strikeouts over 1.1 innings.

The right-hander was called upon with two out and one on during the eighth inning, and the inherited runner scored immediately on an RBI triple. Taylor closed out the frame one pitch later and then delivered a clean ninth, throwing just seven pitches to five batters in total. The 24-year-old fired four scoreless frames Saturday to pick up the save in the series opener and has yet to give up a run with an 11:1 K:BB across 7.2 innings this postseason.

  • Taylor allowed one hit and no walks in 1.1 scoreless innings to record the save Saturday against Detroit.

Despite yielding at least one run in four of his seven September outings, Taylor continues to work as one of Chicago's closing options. The right-hander has now converted back-to-back save opportunities, tossing 3.2 shutout innings during that span. For the year, he has a strong 2.30 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 103:30 K:BB while recording 10 saves (17 attempts) over 82 innings.

  • Taylor allowed two hits and two walks while striking out one over 2.1 scoreless innings to earn the save in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Tigers.

Taylor threw 19 of 35 pitches for strikes. He's made 16 appearances of two innings or longer this season, allowing just five runs (three earned) with a 38:6 K:BB over 33.1 frames in those outings. Overall, he's at a 2.34 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 103:30 K:BB through 80.2 innings. Despite the multi-inning capabilities, he's logged nine saves, 10 holds and seven blown saves on the year.

  • Taylor (7-2) earned the win Friday against the Twins after pitching 2.2 scoreless innings in relief, allowing one hit and striking out three without a walk.

Taylor took over with two outs in the sixth inning and protected Chicago's 6-4 advantage through the end of the eighth, allowing just one baserunner during his 2.2 innings of work while tossing 20 of his 27 pitches for strikes. The right-hander lowered his ERA to 2.03 with this outing, and he extended an outstanding stretch that has seen him give up just one earned run across 22.2 innings, good for a pristine 0.40 ERA, in 16 outings since the All-Star break. He's also gone 4-for-7 in save opportunities in that span, but his usage earlier in the game afforded Bryan Hudson the save chance Friday.

  • Taylor recorded his eighth save of the season Tuesday against the Rangers, retiring the only batter he faced.

Taylor was summoned with two outs in the ninth inning after Hagen Smith walked the bases loaded, bringing the tying run to the plate. He needed just two pitches to extinguish the threat, inducing a ground-ball fielder's choice to secure his eighth save of the season. The right-hander has been dominant recently, allowing just one run over his last 23.2 innings while striking out 25 batters during that span. Taylor's ERA is down to 2.11 on the season alongside a 1.05 WHIP and 89:24 K:BB across 68.1 innings.
