Latest news

  • The Dodgers transferred Lauer (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Friday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Lauer initially landed on the injured list Sept. 2 with elbow inflammation, so his move to the 60-day IL officially rules him out for the rest of the season. His place on the 40-man roster will go to top prospect Josue De Paula, who was selected from Double-A Tulsa in a corresponding move.

  • The Dodgers placed Lauer on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with left elbow inflammation.

Lauer was lit up for seven earned runs in just three innings during his start Tuesday, and he appears to have come away from his outing with an elbow issue. He'll now use the next couple of weeks to recover, and the Dodgers will return Blake Treinen (elbow) from the 60-day IL to provide extra bullpen depth while the team sorts out its rotation plans.

  • Lauer (8-7) allowed seven runs on eight hits, one walk and one hit batsman while striking out two over three innings to take the loss versus the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Lauer was tagged for a pair of home runs in the second inning, but it was a parade of hits in the third inning that brought his start to an early end. With 20 runs allowed (19 earned) over his last 20.1 innings, Lauer is stumbling to the finish line this year. However, the Dodgers need him in the rotation while Roki Sasaki (finger) is out, as Justin Wrobleski has moved to the bullpen. Lauer has put up a 5.23 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 72:35 K:BB through 108.1 innings over 22 games (18 starts) this season. His next start is tentatively projected to be at home versus the Nationals over the weekend. The Dodgers' pitching plans for the next turn through the rotation likely hinge on Shohei Ohtani's availability to take the mound after he was scratched from a start Sunday versus Detroit due to ongoing knee and biceps concerns.

  • Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after Wednesday's 6-5 loss to Atlanta that Lauer will move back into the rotation next week as a replacement for Roki Sasaki (finger), who is set to be placed on the injured list, Jack Harris of the California Post reports.

Just a few days after the team announced that Lauer would shift to the bullpen to accommodate Tyler Glasnow's return from the IL, the 31-year-old southpaw will now reclaim a spot in the rotation after Sasaki exit his start Wednesday due to a blister. Lauer, who gave up one run over two innings of relief following Sasaki's departure, owns a 3.78 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 44:18 K:BB in 69 innings since being acquired by the Dodgers in May.

  • Manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Lauer will be available out of the bullpen going forward, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

The veteran left-hander has started in 11 of his 12 appearances for the Dodgers and has a 3.76 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 43:16 K:BB across 67 innings, but the return of Tyler Glasnow (back) from the 60-day injured list during the upcoming weekend will allow the club to bolster its bullpen by changing Lauer's role. Shohei Ohtani (knee) could also be ready to resume making starts on the mound in the first week of September, and Lauer would be a logical option to piggyback the four-time MVP as he ramps up his pitching workload.
