  • The White Sox released Haase on Thursday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Haase inked a minor-league deal in July and collected a 1.027 OPS in seven games with Triple-A Charlotte, so he might have exercised an opt-out clause. The veteran catcher slashed .162/.235/.365 in 29 games with the Giants earlier this season, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him wind up back in San Francisco considering the Giants' injury problems at catcher.

  • Haase and the White Sox agreed on a minor-league contract Tuesday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Haase went unclaimed off waivers after being cut loose by the Giants on Thursday, and he has now found a new home with Chicago. The catcher will report to Triple-A Charlotte, and he will have to be added to the 40-man roster in order for the White Sox to promote him to the major-league roster at any point this season.

  • Haase was placed on unconditional release waivers by the Giants on Thursday, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Haase was designated for assignment by San Francisco on Friday, and he will now either be claimed by a new team or become a free agent. The 33-year-old has produced a .162 average with four home runs, nine RBI and eight runs scored over 74 at-bats in 29 contests with the Giants this season.

  • The Giants designated Haase for assignment Friday.

With Daniel Susac (back) now back from the injured list, Haase will lose his place on both the active and 40-man rosters. The 33-year-old backstop has slashed just .162/.235/.365 across 84 plate appearances with the Giants this season.

  • Haase is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.

After Daniel Susac (back) landed on the 10-day injured list June 26, Haase looked to be next in line to serve as Giants' primary catcher. Instead, Drew Cavanaugh has ascended to the top of the depth chart since being called up from Triple-A Sacramento following Susac's move to the IL, while Haase has been stuck in the No. 2 role. Haase will be stuck on the bench for the fourth time in five games while Cavanaugh picks up another start behind the dish.

  • Haase will start at catcher and bat eighth in Sunday's game against Atlanta.

Triple-A Sacramento call-up Drew Cavanaugh received the first two starts at catcher following Daniel Susac's (back) placement on the injured list Friday, but Haase could end up being the main beneficiary from a playing-time standpoint while Susac is shelved. Since being promoted from Triple-A on April 21, Haase is batting just .200 but has made his 12 hits count, slugging four home runs and three doubles over 66 plate appearances.
