  • Diaz retired all three batters he faced with one strikeout to earn the save in Game 4 of the NLDS against Atlanta on Wednesday.

It's the second straight day with a save for Diaz, who was shifted to a low-leverage role late in the regular season and also dealt with a neck injury. Tanner Scott operated as the Dodgers' primary closer down the stretch, but he surrendered two runs in Game 1 and was used in a setup role Wednesday. Diaz's 8.68 ERA in 21 appearances during the regular season will likely prevent him from being viewed as a lockdown closer this October, but he's now held the opposition scoreless in his last eight appearances (three postseason games) and is clearly back in the high-leverage mix for manager Dave Roberts.

  • Diaz earned the save in Game 3 of the NLDS against Atlanta on Tuesday, allowing a hit with no walks or strikeouts in a scoreless ninth inning.

The 32-year-old entered for the ninth with a 3-1 advantage, and he got off to an inauspicious start when Ozzie Albies doubled to open the frame. Diaz dialed in from there, however, and retired the next three batters to tally his first save since mid-August. The right-hander was plagued by injuries and ineffectiveness this year -- which resulted in him losing the closer role -- but he finished the regular season with five straight scoreless outings and has been unscored upon in his first two appearances of the playoffs. He seems unlikely to fully reclaim the closer role given that Evan Phillips was called upon for the save in the series opener, but it still appears that Diaz has regained the trust of manager Dave Roberts.

  • The Dodgers activated Diaz (neck) from the 15-day injured list Friday.

Diaz has been officially cleared to return from his neck injury. The veteran reliever will serve in low-leverage situations upon his return and is unlikely to see many save opportunities unless favored closer Tanner Scott is unavailable. Across five rehab outings, Diaz allowed six runs on four hits and seven walks while striking out four across 4.1 innings.

  • Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Thursday that Diaz (neck) will be activated from the 15-day injured list Friday, Jack Harris of the California Post reports.

Per David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports, Roberts added that Diaz will be used in "low-leverage" situations intially and will have to earn more high-profile assignments. Diaz has been sidelined since mid-August with neck inflammation and posted a 12.46 ERA in five rehab outings, though he did log a scoreless appearance Wednesday with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

  • Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Monday that Diaz (neck) "hasn't been good" on his rehab assignment and "needs to pitch better" before the team considers returning him to the active roster, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.

Diaz gave up five runs on two hits and three walks while recording only two outs in his last rehab appearance with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday, and he's allowed six runs with a 4:7 K:BB in 3.1 rehab innings. Diaz has been out since mid-August with neck inflammation, and while his health no longer is a concern, the Dodgers need to see the reliever pitching better before activating him. If/when Diaz does return, he will likely be used in low-leverage spots, at least initially.
