  • The White Sox activated Thorpe (elbow) from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday.

Coming back from Tommy John surgery, Thorpe has pitched well in 10 rehab starts, posting a 2.85 ERA and 38:13 K:BB over 41 innings. However, rather than throw him into a playoff race, the White Sox will keep Thorpe at Charlotte for the time being.

  • Thorpe (elbow) struck out three batters and allowed two earned runs on four hits and no walks over five innings in his most recent rehab start for Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday.

Thorpe has been on the shelf all season while completing his recovery from April 2025 Tommy John surgery. He's been able to complete five innings in three of four Triple-A outings, but rather than activating him from the 60-day injured list, the White Sox have so far elected to keep him on an extended rehab assignment. Over four appearances for Triple-A Charlotte, he's turned in a 3.20 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 18:3 K:BB in 19.2 innings.

  • Thorpe (elbow) is expected to make his next rehab start for Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, MLB.com reports.

Though Thorpe appears to be fully stretched back out after covering at least four innings in each of his last five rehab outings, the White Sox have delayed his activation from the 60-day injured list. Chicago doesn't appear to have room for Thorpe in the big-league rotation, so the right-hander could remain with Charlotte through the end of his rehab window. Through his first seven minor-league appearances since starting up his rehab assignment following the All-Star break, Thorpe has delivered a 3.04 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 28:8 K:BB across 26.2 frames.

  • Thorpe (elbow) is scheduled for a rehab start with Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, James Fegan of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Thorpe has slowly built up his workload since embarking on his rehab assignment in mid-July, with the right-hander having completed five innings in each of his last two outings. Tuesday's start may be his last before being cleared to return from the IL. However, with five healthy starts in the White Sox's rotation and Davis Martin (finger) expected to be back in late August, Thorpe could stay in Charlotte as he has minor-league options remaining. Thorpe is in the final stages of his recovery from Tommy John surgery that he underwent in April of 2025.

  • Thorpe (elbow) struck out six and allowed one earned run on three hits and no walks across five innings in a rehab start Wednesday with Triple-A Charlotte.

Coming back from April 2025 Tommy John surgery, Thorpe has generally looked sharp since kicking off his rehab assignment July 18. Over stops with four different minor-league affiliates, Thorpe has strung together a 2.65 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 19:5 K:BB in 17 innings. After tossing 76 pitches in Wednesday's outing, Thorpe looks to be fully stretched out, and while the White Sox have an opening in the rotation, the right-hander may not be at the top of the list to fill the void, considering Jose Urquidy and Jonathan Cannon have both pitched well of late at Triple-A. Thorpe has minor-league options remaining, so the White Sox could stash him at Charlotte once his rehab window closes and he needs to be activated from the 60-day injured list.

  • Thorpe (elbow) struck out three and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks across four innings Wednesday in a rehab start at Double-A Birmingham.

Making the fourth start of his rehab assignment as he makes his way back from April 2025 Tommy John surgery, Thorpe built up to 68 pitches (43 strikes). Overall, Thorpe has compiled a 3.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 13:5 K:BB in 12 innings across stops with Birmingham, High-A Winston-Salem and the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. The right-hander could need just one more rehab outing before he's considered fully stretched out and ready to return from the 60-day injured list, but it's unclear if the White Sox plan to include him in the rotation or send him to Triple-A Charlotte once he's activated. After demoting Noah Schultz to Charlotte on Saturday, the White Sox have an opening available in the rotation, but Erick Fedde could be moved from the bullpen or Jonathan Cannon could be called up from Triple-A to fill that spot if the club isn't convinced Thorpe is ready for a big-league assignment coming off major surgery.
