  • Atlanta selected Young's contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday, Lindsay Crosby of BravesToday.com reports.

Young allowed 11 earned runs in just 12.1 innings with Atlanta during the regular season, but he'll return to the 40-man roster as the team enters the offseason. Luke Williams was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

  • Atlanta outrighted Young to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday.

Having been outrighted previously, Young has the ability to decline the assignment and become a free agent. If he sticks around, he will give Atlanta additional lefty relief depth at Gwinnett. Young returned from Tommy John surgery around midseason this year and allowed 11 runs with a 15:13 K:BB over 12.1 innings.

  • Atlanta designated Young for assignment on Sunday.

Young will cede his spot on the roster to another left-handed option in Ray Kerr, who was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move. Young earned his pink slip after surrendering nine earned runs on nine hits and five walks in 3.2 innings over his last four outings.

  • Young will serve as Atlanta's opener for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

The left-hander will be making his first MLB start but is expected to cover just an inning or two before giving way to right-hander JR Ritchie, who is slated to pitch in bulk relief. Since being reinstated July 3 following a season-opening stint on the injured list, Young has struck out three while allowing one earned run on two hits and one walk across 3.1 innings over four relief appearances.

  • Atlanta activated Young (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Friday.

Coming back from Tommy John surgery, Young was sharp in five rehab outings, posting an 8:4 K:BB while yielding just one hit and one unearned run over 5.1 innings. With a career 78:25 K:BB over 60.2 frames, Young could provide a nice boost to the Atlanta bullpen in a low-leverage role.

  • Young (elbow) walked and hit a batter but struck out three in a scoreless inning in his first rehab appearance with Double-A Columbus on Tuesday.

Young began a rehab assignment Saturday at the rookie-level Florida Complex League with a scoreless frame and followed that up with another scoreless outing as he moved up to Columbus. The left-hander is coming back from Tommy John surgery and is tracking toward a season debut around the All-Star break.
