Latest news

  • Selby (shoulder) was reinstated from the 60-day IL, cleared outright waivers, and has been assigned to Triple-A Norfolk.

Selby underwent season-ending right shoulder surgery last July to repair his labrum and rotator cuff. He's not expected to be ready for Opening Day in 2027, though there's a good chance he'll be able to return to game action at some point during the summer. Selby didn't pitch at all last year, but he showed some promise in 2025 when he posted a 14:2 K:BB over 14 innings spanning 11 relief appearances with the Orioles while recording a 3.21 ERA and 1.29 WHIP.

  • Orioles president of baseball operations Mike Elias said Friday that Selby underwent right shoulder surgery Tuesday to repair his labrum and rotator cuff, Andy Kostka of TheBanner.com reports.

Selby has been shelved for the entire 2026 and opted for surgery following multiple opinions. The procedure will knock Selby out for the remainder of this season, and he's expected to get a late start to next season, as well.

  • Selby plans to receive a second opinion on his right shoulder before continuing his rehab program, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Selby has been on the shelf since Feb. 14 due to right shoulder inflammation and has made limited progress in his recovery over four months later. The second opinion should provide Selby with more clarity regarding his options for treatment. Given his lengthy layoff from throwing, surgery would seem to be a distinct possibility for the 28-year-old right-hander.

  • Selby was recently evaluated by Dr. Chris Looze in Baltimore due to ongoing symptoms with his injured right shoulder, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Selby has been out all season with right shoulder inflammation and seems to have made little-to-no progress. He is still in the process of discussing treatment options, but it's unclear whether surgery is being considered. Selby held a 3.21 ERA and 14:2 K:BB over 14 innings out of the Orioles' bullpen in 2025.

  • The Orioles placed Selby on the 60-day injured list Saturday due to right shoulder inflammation, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.

Selby's move to the 60-day IL will ensure he remains sidelined until at least late May and opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for Jackson Kowar, who was acquired in a trade with the Twins on Saturday. Selby isn't reportedly dealing with any structural damage, which increases the likelihood that he could return to the Orioles' bullpen after a minimum-length IL stint.

  • Orioles president of baseball operations Mike Elias said Wednesday that Selby is expected to begin the season on the injured list due to right shoulder inflammation, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

He's not dealing with any structural damage, but Selby will be sidelined indefinitely as the Orioles allow the inflammation in his shoulder to subside. Selby yielded five runs with a 14:2 K:BB over 14 frames with Baltimore in 2025 and, once healthy, is slated for a middle relief role.
