Manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that Schmidt (biceps) will be shut down for the rest of the season, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
Schmidt landed on the injured list shortly before the regular season ended due to right bicep neuritis, and rather than trying to get him ready to contribute to the team's postseason run, the Yankees have decided to focus on getting him fully healthy for 2027. The 30-year-old righty will be entering his final year of arbitration eligibility this winter.

The Yankees placed Schmidt on the 15-day injured list Thursday with right bicep neuritis, retroactive to Monday.
Schmidt's move to the injured list will officially rule him out for the AL Wild Card Series and the start of the ALDS, but there's a chance that the Yankees may shut the 30-year-old down for the season and focus on getting him ready for 2027. He appeared in just one regular-season game this year, allowing two hits and recording two strikeouts in two-thirds of an inning Sept. 16 against Minnesota after completing his rehab from elbow surgery. Bradley Hanner will come up to fill the open bullpen spot.

Schmidt (biceps) could be shut down for the season if he's unable to pitch Thursday, MLB.com reports.
After completing his recovery from the internal brace procedure he underwent in July of 2025, Schmidt returned to the Yankees and pitched a scoreless two-thirds of an inning against Minnesota on Sept. 16. However, he suffered a biceps injury while warming up in the bullpen four days later. The right-hander reportedly had a "better" day Tuesday, but it's still unclear if he'll be able to return before the end of the season. Should Schmidt not be feeling well enough to pitch by Thursday, the Yankees may decide that he's better off being held out until 2027.

Manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Schmidt underwent testing on his right biceps and is "in a pretty good spot," Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
The right-hander was warming up to enter Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks until he experienced some biceps soreness, per Hoch, but it appears he's avoided a serious injury. Schmidt is scheduled to play catch Tuesday to help determine his availability.
