The Rangers released Martin on Saturday.
Martin was dropped from the Rangers' 40-man roster and exposed to waivers earlier in the week, but he ended up going unclaimed. Though the 40-year-old righty allowed 14 earned runs in 14 innings on the season for Texas, he's just one year removed from turning in a 2.98 ERA over 49 appearances at the big-league level. Martin's $4 million salary for 2026 may have been a factor in none of the other 29 teams putting in a claim for him, but he could hold some appeal now that he's eligible to sign at a club-friendly rate for the remainder of the season.

The Rangers activated Martin (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Monday and designated him for assignment.
Martin is recovered from the right shoulder impingement that's kept him out since mid-July, but the Rangers determined there wasn't a spot for him on their active roster. The veteran reliever will be exposed to waivers, and it's possible Martin could be traded before the deadline. Martin has collected a 9.00 ERA and 9:2 K:BB over 14 innings for the Rangers this season, but the 40-year-old posted a 2.98 ERA and 43:8 K:BB in 42.1 frames in 2025.

The Rangers sent Martin (shoulder) to Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment.
Martin landed on the 15-day injured list just before the All-Star break with a right shoulder impingement. He is eligible for activation Monday and should be ready to go on that date after a rehab appearance or two.

The Rangers placed Martin on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to a right shoulder impingement.
It's unclear when Martin sustained the injury, but he's been struggling of late with seven runs allowed in four outings since returning in early July from a prior shoulder issue. The veteran right-hander will be eligible to be reinstated in late July.

Martin allowed one hit and struck out one over a scoreless inning in Saturday's 3-0 loss to Detroit.
Martin was reinstated from the injured list Saturday and was used immediately. It's been a rough season for the 40-year-old right-hander, who has spent two stints on the IL and carries a 7.15 ERA through 13 outings (11.1 innings). He was considered a candidate for closing duties coming out of training camp, but Martin is still looking for his first save of 2026, and he might never get one given how well Jacob Latz (18 saves and an All-Star nod) has pitched in that role.

The Rangers reinstated Martin (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Saturday.
Martin landed on the IL in early June due to a right shoulder impingement. He appeared in just one game in his rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco, allowing one hit while striking out two batters in a scoreless inning Wednesday. Martin replaces Jakob Junis (hip), who was placed on the 15-day IL.
