  • Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Monday that Rodon is lined up up to start a potential Game 4 of the ALDS versus the Rays on Thursday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

The Yankees will turn to Max Fried in Game 3, leaving Rodon to take the ball in Game 4 in what would be his first start this postseason. Gerrit Cole would be on regular rest in Game 4 and could be used in relief that day, but otherwise he'll be lined up for a possible Game 5. Rodon's last start came on Sept. 22 against the Rays, and he struck out eight over eight shutout innings.

  • Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Friday that Rodon will start either Game 3 or a potential Game 4 of the ALDS versus the Rays, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

Rodon might be needed in relief in Game 1 or 2, but if not he'll take the ball as a starter later in the series. The southpaw's final regular-season start was against the Rays, and he dazzled with eight strikeouts across eight shutout innings. The Yankees are turning to Gerrit Cole in Game 1 and Cam Schlittler in Game 2.

  • Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Sunday that he expects to have Rodon pitch out of the bullpen for the American League Wild Card series against the Red Sox, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports.

The Yankees already announced their rotation for the Wild Card series, with Cam Schlittler taking the mound for Game 1 on Tuesday, followed by Max Fried and Gerrit Cole. Rodon will thus be deployed out of the bullpen, though he could return to the rotation if the Yankees make a run. He posted a 7-3 record across 16 starts this season with a 2.67 ERA and 1.06 WHIP across 84.1 innings.

  • Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Rodon will not start Sunday's regular-season finale against the Orioles, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

Rodon will be on regular rest Sunday after tossing eight shutout innings with eight strikeouts to get the win in the first game of Tuesday's twin bill versus the Rays. However, with the regular-season finale unlikely to carry any postseason implications, the Yankees will hold Rodon back until the wild-card round. Boone didn't reveal who would start Sunday's contest, but it could be a bullpen game.

  • Rodon didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 5-4 extra-innings loss to the Twins, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out five.

The veteran southpaw left the mound after 102 pitches (59 strikes) with the Yankees down 2-0, but they were able to tie it up in the ninth and take Rodon off the hook for his fourth loss. Rodon has produced back-to-back quality starts, giving him five on the season in 15 trips to the mound. Since coming off the IL in mid-August, he's delivered a 2.40 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 31:12 K:BB over 30 innings. He lines up to make what will likely be his final start of the regular season at home next week against the Rays, in a game that could still have huge significance in the race for the AL East title.

  • Rodon (6-3) earned the win against the Mets on Friday, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and one walk while striking out eight across 6.1 innings.

Friday's series opener was arguably Rodon's best outing of the season, with his eight strikeouts being his best of the year while working into the seventh inning. He induced 18 whiffs on 93 pitches (61 strikes), and the 32-year-old southpaw has given up one earned run in four of his five outings since being activated from the 15-day injured list Aug. 18. Rodon will take a 2.94 ERA and 1.12 WHIP over 70.1 innings into his next start, tentatively slated for next week on the road against the Twins.
