OUT

Out · expected back around Feb 1

Weyrich reveals that Povich had pitched through significant discomfort down the stretch of the regular season, and the decision was made to have surgery. It's a relatively minor operation as far as elbow surgeries go, and the Orioles anticipate Povich being ready to roll for spring training. The lefty held a 4.38 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 28:15 K:BB across 37 innings at the major-league level in 2026. Assuming health, he's likely in line to compete for a spot in the Orioles' rotation in 2027.

  • Povich underwent surgery Wednesday to remove loose bodies from his left elbow, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

  • The Orioles optioned Povich to Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

After giving up three earned runs in just 3.2 innings during his start against the Brewers on Friday, Povich will be sent back down to Triple-A to make room for Felix Bautista (shoulder), who returned from the 60-day IL on Saturday. Unless Povich returns to Baltimore as an injury replacement, he will finish the 2026 campaign with a 4.38 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 28:15 K:BB across 37 MLB innings.

  • Povich didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Brewers, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks over 3.2 innings. He struck out three.

All three runs came on a Jackson Chourio homer in the second inning, but Pete Alonso tied it up with his own long ball in the next frame, and Povich avoided any other damage over 71 pitches (41 strikes). The southpaw has bounced between the big-league and Triple-A rotations all season, and over eight outings (seven starts) for Baltimore he's managed a 4.38 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 28:15 K:BB in 37 innings. Povich will likely get one more start in the majors before the end of the regular season as the O's fight to stay in the wild-card race, and he's scheduled for a home outing next week against one of the teams currently ahead of them, the Blue Jays.

  • Povich will rejoin the Orioles this weekend and is likely to make a start against the Brewers, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Povich had been slated to start for Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday, but he was scratched from that scheduled outing and could take the ball for the Orioles as soon as Friday. The left-hander has logged a 4.05 ERA and 25:13 K:BB over 33.1 frames covering six starts and one relief outing with the big club this season. With Kyle Bradish (sports hernia) done for the season, Povich could make an additional start next week.

  • The Orioles optioned Povich to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.

The move comes one day after Povich held the Rockies to one run over five innings in a spot start Monday at Coors Field. Povich will rejoin the Norfolk rotation but could get another look in the majors later this month, depending on where the Orioles are in the playoff hunt.
