The Astros optioned King to Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
King has appeared in 51 games out of Houston's bullpen this season, posting a 4.75 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 44:19 K:BB across 53 innings. He was shelled for five runs on five hits with one strikeout across 1.1 innings during Thursday's 18-3 loss to the Angels. King will serve as the Astros' opening pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Giants, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
King owns a 3.83 ERA through 49.1 innings this season but has given up 12 earned runs in just his last 9.1 frames. Despite his recent poor form, the Astros will give him his first MLB start. Tatsuya Imai or Ronel Blanco is expected to pitch in bulk relief once King exits, likely after covering the first inning or two.

The Astros recalled King from Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, Julia Morales of Space City Home Network reports.
King was sent down to Triple-A last week after giving up eight earned runs over his last four outings (spanning five innings). Prior to that four-game stretch, he boasted a 2.02 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 12 holds, six saves (on nine chances) and a 31:14 K:BB across 40 innings. Despite his recent struggles, King is back with the big club after the Astros placed Spencer Arrighetti (foot) on the 15-day injured list.

King was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land after Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Orioles, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
King will head back down to the Triple-A level for the first time since 2024 after he surrendered a solo home run while striking out a batter over one inning Sunday. The southpaw has now surrendered eight runs on 10 hits, including five home runs, over five innings in his last four appearances with Houston, and his trip to Sugar Land will be an opportunity to hit the reset button. King still owns a strong 3.40 ERA and 1.31 WHIP with 35 strikeouts while converting six out of 10 save opportunities over 42 appearances with the Astros this season, and he will likely return to the major-league roster relatively soon.
