  • The Marlins outrighted Navarreto to Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday.

Having been outrighted previously, Navarreto has the ability to decline the assignment and become a free agent. The 31-year-old catcher has a career .559 OPS in 42 games covering parts of three big-league seasons.

  • Navarreto went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Phillies on Monday.

Navarreto started behind the plate for the second straight day in the wake of No. 1 option Joe Mack dealing with a shoulder injury. Navarreto took advantage of the opportunity, notching two hits, including an eighth-inning solo homer that brought his team to within a run. It was the first long ball this season for the 31-year-old backstop and the second of his MLB career in his 23rd contest. Navarreto is still slashing a paltry .148/.233/.296 across 32 plate appearances this season and doesn't figure to see many starts when Mack is healthy.

  • Navarreto will start at catcher and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

With Joe Mack resting for the series finale and Liam Hicks manning first base, Navarreto will crack the starting nine for the first time since July 12. Since being called up from Triple-A Jacksonville on June 21, Navarreto is slashing .167/.231/.250 over just 15 plate appearances in seven games.

  • The Marlins selected Navarreto's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday.

He'll provide Miami with a second option at catcher behind Joe Mack after the Marlins moved Liam Hicks (back) to the 10-day injured list Sunday. Mack is expected to shoulder a heftier workload behind the dish while Hicks is shelved, so Navarreto may not get more than a start or two a week while he's up.

  • The Marlins reassigned Navarreto to minor-league camp Wednesday.

Navarreto received 15 plate appearances over eight games with the Marlins in 2025, but he was never expected to have much of a shot at breaking camp with the big club so long as the team's top two backstops, Agustin Ramirez and Liam Hicks, were both available heading into Opening Day. The 31-year-old Navarreto will presumably open the campaign at Triple-A Jacksonville.

  • The Marlins re-signed Navarreto to a minor-league contract Monday.

Navarreto elected free agency last month after being outrighted off the Marlins' 40-man roster, but he's found his way back into the organization. The 30-year-old got into eight games with Miami in 2025, going 4-for-14 with one home run. Navarreto is likely pegged for Triple-A Jacksonville to begin the 2026 campaign.
