Latest news

  • Basso allowed five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two over two-plus innings in a no-decision versus the Angels on Tuesday.

For the second start in a row, Basso couldn't escape the third inning. He's given up nine runs over his last 4.2 frames, though the Athletics' late comeback spared him from another loss. Basso has a 5.36 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 30:9 K:BB through 42 innings over 25 games (seven starts) in the majors this season. Basso is tentatively lined up for one more start this year, which would be at home versus the Astros, a matchup fantasy managers will likely want to avoid.

  • Basso (1-3) took the loss against the Rays on Wednesday, allowing four runs on seven hits over 2.2 innings. He did not issue a walk or strike out a batter.

Basso entered Wednesday's game having tossed seven consecutive scoreless innings spanning his last two starts, but he didn't have that level of success against Tampa Bay. He gave up two runs in both of the first two innings, with three of those runs coming on three separate RBI doubles, and he was pulled in the third frame after running his pitch count up to 52 (38 strikes). The 28-year-old southpaw has a 4.50 ERA and 1.48 WHIP across 40 innings this season, and he's tentatively slated to face the Angels at home next week.

  • Basso didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Blue Jays, allowing three hits and two walks over four scoreless innings. He struck out four.

In his longest outing of the season, Basso fired 41 of 68 pitches for strikes as he got the combined shutout going. The southpaw appears to be getting stretched out to fill the fifth starter role for the A's, and over three September appearances he's dialed up a 1.93 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 6:3 K:BB in 9.1 innings. Basso will look to last long enough to qualify for a win in his next trip to the mound, which is set to come on the road next week in Tampa Bay.

  • Basso is slated to start Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.

Basso has operated as more of an opening pitcher in his prior four starts this season, but the Athletics could have him stretch out a bit more Wednesday. In his most recent relief appearance in Saturday's 7-6 win over the Mariners, Basso tossed 38 pitches over three shutout innings. Joey Estes is the freshest arm in the Athletics bullpen and should be available to cover multiple frames once Basso exits the contest.

  • Basso (1-2) earned the win in Friday's 7-6 victory over Seattle. He allowed three hits and a walk with no strikeouts over three scoreless innings of relief.

After starter Kade Morris struggled across 2.2 innings, Basso stepped up and twirled three scoreless frames to pick up his first win of the campaign. The southpaw has shuttled between Triple-A Las Vegas and the big leagues throughout 2026, posting a 4.32 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 24:5 K:BB across 33.1 innings with the Athletics.

  • Basso (0-2) was tagged with the loss Tuesday against the Rangers after allowing two runs on four hits over 2.1 innings. He struck out two without a walk.

Basso was deployed as the Athletics' opener Tuesday, and even though he departed the game in the third inning after 40 pitches (26 strikes), his early struggles were enough to tag him with the loss. Basso owns a 4.75 ERA and 1.42 WHIP after this outing. Given that his role is mainly pitching as an opener or in low-leverage relief situations, his fantasy appeal is extremely limited.
