Bichette exercised his $42 million player option for the 2027 season Thursday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.
Bichette's first year with the Mets didn't quite play out as hoped, as he posted just a .702 OPS across 696 plate appearances while adding 18 homers, 78 RBI and 76 runs for a team that finished last in the NL East. It was unlikely that he'd attract a more lucrative deal in free agency coming off one of the worst seasons of his career, so he'll opt in for another season as an everyday starter in Queens.

Bichette went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a solo home run during the Mets' 7-6 loss to the Nationals on Friday.
Bichette tied things up at 2-2 with an RBI double in the third inning before adding a solo homer in the fifth. It was his first multi-hit game since Sept. 15 against the Orioles and 43rd of the season. He's also up to 18 home runs, matching his total from the 2025 regular season with the Blue Jays, though his 2026 slash line of .261/.312/.393 is noticeably lower than last year (.311/.357/.483).

Bichette put the Mets ahead for good in the eighth inning with a two-out, 412-foot blast off Carson Seymour, his 16th homer this season.
