  • Orioles manager Craig Albernaz indicated Friday that Alexander (back) will not be activated from the 10-day injured list before the end of the season, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.

Alexander has been out since early September with back spasms. His back is still bothing him, so the out-of-contention Orioles won't press the issue. Alexander was limited to 93 games this season due to injury but was a valuable super-utility player when on the field, slashing .303/.358/.414 with four home runs and 10 stolen bases. The 27-year-old will likely have a similar role with the Orioles in 2027.

  • The Orioles placed Alexander on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with low-back discomfort.

Alexander had to be pulled from Tuesday's game versus the Guardians after his back started acting up on him, and ultimately the issue has forced another IL stint. He just returned from an extended absence less than two weeks ago due to a hand fracture. Jeremiah Jackson is taking Alexander's spot on the active roster.

  • Alexander was removed from Tuesday's game against the Guardians due to back spasms, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Alexander went 1-for-3 with a run scored before his back forced him out of the game in the ninth inning. The team hasn't provided any details regarding the severity of his injury, but if the 27-year-old needs to miss time, Jackson Holliday would be next in line to start at second base.

  • Alexander will start at second base and bat leadoff in Sunday's game against the Red Sox, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Since being reinstated from the injured list Aug. 28, Alexander has now picked up eight starts in 11 games while occupying four different positions during that span. Alexander is hitting .300 since his activation, but all nine of his hits have been singles, and he's provided few counting statistics (three runs, one RBI and one stolen base).

  • Alexander isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Athletics.

After going 1-for-5 during his first game back from the injured list Friday, Alexander will move to the bench Saturday as the O's look to ease him back into action after missing more than a month. Christian Encarnacion-Strand will man the hot corner and bat fourth.
