Latest news

  • The Brewers traded Perkins and Craig Yoho to the Guardians on Saturday in exchange for Bo Naylor and Codi Heuer, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Perkins has taken a step back offensively this season, slashing .157/.250/.258 across 55 games in the majors, and he hasn't recorded a plate appearance since the Brewers called up top outfield prospect Luis Lara from Triple-A on July 7. Perkins will now get a shot at a fresh start with the Guardians, and although he'll report to Triple-A Columbus to begin his time with the organization, per Tim Stebbins of MLB.com, Perkins could eventually find work in center field as an alternative to the struggling Petey Halpin (.535 OPS).

  • The Brewers recalled Perkins from Triple-A Nashville on Saturday, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Perkins will rejoin the big club as the roster replacement for Sal Frelick, who landed on the injured list Saturday with a strained right shoulder. Perkins has had limited success in the majors this season, slashing just .157/.250/.258 across 101 plate appearances, and he will likely work in a bench role while Luis Lara receives the largest increase in playing time.

  • The Brewers optioned Perkins to Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old hasn't started a game since June 29 and has just six at-bats over the past two weeks, so the Brewers will send him down in favor of top prospect Luis Lara. Perkins could get another look with Milwaukee if its outfield depth is tested later this summer, but his .157/.250/.258 slash line in 53 plate appearances is unlikely to result in him working as more than a bench player.

  • Perkins went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and a double in Sunday's 4-0 win over the Phillies.

Perkins had struggled to find any consistency at the plate in a limited role over two stints in the majors this season. This was his first multi-hit effort of the season, and it also included his first homer, a fourth-inning blast off Philadelphia ace Cristopher Sanchez. Perkins hadn't logged an extra-base hit since April 23 versus the Tigers. On the season, the outfielder is batting just .133 with a .462 OPS, 11 RBI, 11 runs scored, four doubles and three stolen bases over 86 plate appearances. The switch hitter will likely continue to play primarily against left-handed pitchers as a platoon partner for either Garrett Mitchell or Sal Frelick in center field or right field, respectively.

  • The Brewers recalled Perkins from Triple-A Nashville on Saturday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Perkins was sent to Triple-A on Monday after Jackson Chourio returned from the injured list, but the former will now return to Milwaukee to replace the injured Brandon Lockridge (knee). Perkins likely won't play as often as he did when Chourio was sidelined but could still see consistent at-bats against left-handed starters.

  • The Brewers optioned Perkins to Triple-A Nashville on Monday.

Perkins will head to Triple-A after the Brewers no longer had room for him in their crowded outfield following Jackson Chourio's (hand) reinstatement from the injured list. The 29-year-old Perkins had seen limited action of late, starting in just four of Milwaukee's last 19 games while slashing .059/.158/.118 during that stretch. Perkins should get the chance to play on an everyday basis with Nashville.
