Out · expected back around Feb 1

Dunn was already out for the season following internal brace surgery in August, and he's now set to undergo an additional operation on his elbow. The first surgery left Dunn a question mark for Opening Day next year, and it's possible Wednesday's procedure lengthens his timeline.

  • Dunn will have ulnar nerve transposition surgery on his right elbow Wednesday, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.

Dunn was already out for the season following internal brace surgery in August, and he's now set to undergo an additional operation on his elbow. The first surgery left Dunn a question mark for Opening Day next year, and it's possible Wednesday's procedure lengthens his timeline.

  • The Reds transferred Dunn (elbow) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Thursday.

The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of waiver claim Ron Marinaccio. Dunn underwent season-ending internal brace surgery on his right elbow earlier this week.

  • Reds manager Terry Francona said Wednesday that the surgery Dunn underwent on his right elbow was an internal brace procedure, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.

Dunn was already presumed to be out for the season once he had his surgery Monday, though it wasn't known at the time what type or procedure he underwent. With the skipper confirming that Dunn had an internal brace surgery, the outfielder is expected to face a recovery timeline of around six months. With that timetable in mind, Dunn will likely face some restrictions at the start of spring training in February, and it wouldn't be surprising if he requires a brief stint on the injured list to begin the season. The 27-year-old had settled in as the Reds' primary center fielder before going down with the elbow injury in late June and finishing his 2026 campaign with a .282/.335/.387 slash line, two home runs, six steals, 20 runs and seven RBI in 38 games.

  • Dunn will undergo surgery on his right elbow Monday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Dunn has been on the shelf since late June due to a right elbow sprain, and he suffered a setback last week shortly before he was scheduled to begin a rehab assignment. The Reds haven't given an updated timeline for the 27-year-old's return, though his procedure will almost certainly rule him out for the remainder of the season. Dane Myers figures to continue working as Cincinnati's primary center fielder while ceding an occasional start to TJ Friedl.

  • Dunn (elbow) suffered a setback prior to being sent on a rehab assignment, MLB.com reports.

Dunn underwent imaging, which revealed additional damage to ligaments in his right elbow. He'll visit Dr. Keith Meister for a second opinion, with surgery a possibility.

  • Dunn (elbow) could soon begin a rehab assignment serving exclusively as a designated hitter while he continues to go through a throwing progression, MLB.com reports.

Dunn has been playing catch and hit on the field with the team in Seattle. Ideally, he would play the field upon his activation off the injured list, but there's a scenario where the outfielder could serve as a regular at DH. As the Reds sprial into being sellers at the trade deadline, the swapping of two trade candidates -- Eugenio Suarez and Nathaniel Lowe -- could clear a path at DH.
