Latest news

  • Ober (7-7) took the loss Saturday against Texas, striking out five while allowing six runs on 10 hits and one walk in five innings.

Most of the damage came in the second inning, when the Rangers plated four runs. Ober opened the season as part of the Minnesota rotation but may have to battle for a starting role next year -- he posted just two quality starts in 13 outings after coming off the injured list in early July. He'll finish the campaign with a 4.47 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 96:37 K:BB over 131 innings.

  • Ober picked up the save Sunday against the Angels. He allowed a hit and no walks while striking out three over three scoreless innings.

Making the first relief appearance of his career, Ober spun three shutout innings to pick up the save. Over his past seven appearances, the right-hander has posted a 3.55 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 28:12 K:BB across 33 innings. Overall, the 31-year-old owns a 4.21 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 91:36 K:BB in 126 innings (24 outings). It remains to be seen if Ober will return to the rotation or remain in a bullpen role to close the season.

  • Ober (7-6) took the loss Tuesday against the Yankees after allowing three runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out three over 5.1 innings.

Ober fell behind almost immediately when Cody Bellinger launched a two-run homer in the top of the first, and the Yankees would never relinquish that lead. The right-hander allowed another run on George Lombard's RBI single in the third but kept New York from breaking the game open and departed with one out in the sixth. This outing ended a run of four straight starts in which he allowed two earned runs or fewer.

  • Ober (7-5) took the loss Sunday against the White Sox, allowing one run on four hits and three walks while striking out six across 4.1 innings.

Ober has now gone eight starts without a win. After four scoreless frames, the right-hander gave up an RBI single to Munetaka Murakami to give the White Sox a 1-0 lead they never squandered. Ober needed 84 pitches (50 strikes) to record just 13 outs, his second-shortest start during a winless stretch in which he's gone 0-2 with a 4.20 ERA and 27:13 K:BB in 40.2 innings. He'll be on the lookout for more run support in his next scheduled start against Cleveland.

  • Ober didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the White Sox, giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out five.

The right-hander saw his winless streak extend to seven starts, but Ober was hardly at fault, as he tossed 80 pitches (53 strikes) before exiting with the score tied 2-2. Over that stretch, he's gone 0-1 with a 4.46 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 21:10 K:BB in 36.1 innings. He'll look for more offensive support in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next weekend in a rematch with the White Sox.

  • Ober allowed one run on four hits and three walks while striking out three over five innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Sunday.

Ober limited the damage to a Fernando Tatis solo home run in the third inning, but the Twins' bullpen wasn't as effective. This was Ober's sixth straight start without a win, though it was arguably his best of the bunch. He's allowed 18 runs (17 earned) over 31.1 innings in that span while adding a 16:8 K:BB. For the year, the right-hander has a 4.49 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 74:29 K:BB across 108.1 innings through 20 starts. His next outing is expected to be at home versus the White Sox.
