Latest news

  • Molina (3-2) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out six over six innings to take the loss versus the Twins on Tuesday.

With this performance, Molina picked up his first quality start in the majors. The right-hander threw 57 of 85 pitches for strikes and matched his season high for strikeouts. He's now at a 3.97 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 31:7 K:BB across 34 innings through nine appearances (five starts). The Giants' rotation is being held together by tape at this point in the season, so it's possible Molina gets one more turn at home versus the Dodgers over the weekend.

  • Molina didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Cardinals, allowing two hits and a walk over 5.2 scoreless innings. He struck out six.

The right-hander fell just short of his first career quality start, getting lifted after 82 pitches (57 strikes) with the Giants ahead 1-0, but both bullpens had trouble closing the door in the late innings. It was a strong rebound from Molina after he got tagged for seven runs in three frames in his last outing. Since shifting into the rotation in late August he's produced a 4.82 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 22:4 K:BB over 18.2 innings. Molina is scheduled to make what could be his final start of the season at home early next week against the Twins.

  • Molina (3-1) allowed seven runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out four over three innings to take the loss Friday versus the Padres.

Molina got through the first inning without damage, but he struggled in the second and third before his early exit. He has allowed 12 runs (10 earned) over 17.1 innings in his four outings with the Giants. Between San Francisco and Atlanta this year, he has a 5.24 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 19:5 K:BB through 22.1 innings.

  • Molina (3-0) picked up the win Saturday, allowing two unearned runs on one hit and one walk over five innings in a 9-5 victory over the Mets. He struck out six.

A Rafael Devers error extended the second inning and led to a two-run homer for A.J. Ewing, but it was the only hit Molina gave up over 87 pitches (55 strikes). The 24-year-old right-hander has gotten into the win column in his first three outings for the Giants since being acquired at the trade deadline from Atlanta, posting a 1.88 ERA, 0.70 WHIP and 13:2 K:BB over 14.1 innings. He'll look to keep that streak going in his next start, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Padres.

  • Molina is listed as the Giants' starting pitcher for Saturday's game against the Mets, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

After being acquired from Atlanta at the trade deadline, Molina has allowed three runs with a 7:1 K:BB over 9.1 innings covering one start and one relief appearance since joining the Giants. The 24-year-old should get a long look in the San Francisco rotation during the final month of the regular season.

  • Molina (2-0) earned the win Monday against Atlanta, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out six over five innings.

Making his third career start and first as a Giant, Molina threw 54 of 75 pitches for strikes and generated 18 whiffs while setting a career high with six strikeouts against his former team. He allowed a run in the first and a leadoff homer to Michael Harris in the second before retiring 10 straight batters, including five consecutive strikeouts, then surrendered his final run in the fifth. Molina has earned the win in both of his appearances for the Giants, allowing three runs across 9.1 innings with a 7:1 K:BB. With San Francisco far from playoff contention, the right-hander should get an opportunity to show what he can do during this last month of the season.
