  • The Guardians activated Walters (lat) from the 15-day injured list Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Columbus, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

Walters was placed on the IL in late March and missed nearly two months of action. Prior to getting hurt, he appeared in two games with Cleveland, allowing two earned runs on two hits while posting a 2:0 K:BB over 1.1 innings. He'll now look to ramp back up with Columbus.

  • Walters (lat) resumed his rehab assignment at Triple-A Columbus on May 12, MLB.com reports.

Walters had his rehab assignment paused due to a viral illness and hadn't pitched since April 24 before returning to action earlier this week. In two games for the Clippers this week, Walters has allowed four runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks over 1.1 innings.

Walters hasn't pitched since April 24. Once he returns to full strength, the right-hander will commence a new rehab stint.

  • Walters (lat) struck out the side in the eighth inning Friday for Triple-A Columbus.

Through four rehab appearances, Walters has fanned nine batters over four innings. While he showed a noticeable reduction in velocity in his first outing, the right-hander has bounced back in subsequent appearances. He has yet to pitch on back-to-back days or even twice in three days, however, suggesting Walters will not be coming off the 15-day injured list any time soon. MLB.com pegs him for a potential return at some point in May.

  • Walters (lat) was charged with two runs on one hit and one walk over an inning of work in his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday.

Walters averaged 94 mph with his four-seamer, which is down 2.4 mph from his average with the Guardians last season prior to lat surgery. The velocity could come back as he further distances himself from the operation, but if it doesn't, the Guardians might opt to keep Walters at Columbus for a while rather than stick him back in the big-league bullpen.
