  • Phillies interim manager Don Mattingly said Monday that Painter will be available out of the bullpen for Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series in Atlanta on Tuesday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Painter had been under consideration to start the game. That assignment will go to Jesus Luzardo, though Luzardo will have a limited workload because he hasn't started a game in a few weeks. Painter could be asked to absorb the lion's share of the workload out of the bullpen Tuesday, though that decision might depend on how the game unfolds.

  • Painter did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Brewers, allowing a run on five hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out eight.

Painter was impressive Thursday, as he logged a quality start while matching a season high with eight punchouts. It was a nice way to wrap up the regular season for the 23-year-old Painter, who had labored to a 5.87 ERA over 15.1 innings in his previous three outings. After struggling mightily in the first half, he'll finish the year 3-10 with 5.40 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 115:47 K:BB over 126.2 innings.

  • Painter (3-10) took the loss Saturday, giving up four runs on four hits and a walk over 5.1 innings as the Phillies fell 10-3 to the Mets. He struck out seven.

The rookie right-hander struck out six or more batters for the fifth time in his last six starts, but homers by Carson Benge in the second inning and Francisco Alvarez in the fifth accounted for all the damage off Painter and put New York in the lead for good. Over that six-start stretch, Painter has put together a 3.57 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 36:10 K:BB through 35.1 innings. He's scheduled to make his final start of the regular season at home next weekend against the Rays.

  • Painter did not factor into the decision Sunday against Atlanta, allowing one run on six hits and four walks while striking out three across five innings.

Painter gave up a sacrifice fly to Drake Baldwin in the first inning, but the former kept Atlanta off the board over the next four frames. Painter tossed 87 pitches (51 strikes) while generating nine whiffs, and he was in line for the win until Atlanta scored two runs in the ninth. He's allowed three earned runs or less in four of his last five outings and sports a 5.54 ERA and 1.44 WHIP over 115.1 innings this season. Painter's next start is lined up for next weekend on the road against the Mets.

  • Painter (3-9) took the loss Tuesday as the Phillies fell 6-5 to the Astros, coughing up five runs on 10 hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out six.

Four of the hits off the 23-year-old righty went for extra bases, including homers by Christian Walker in the second inning and Cam Smith in the fourth. The outing snapped Painter's quality start streak at three, and while he's still prone to rough nights, his overall results have been improving. Since the beginning of August, he's kept the ball in the yard in five of seven trips to the mound, delivering a 3.89 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 38:12 K:BB over 39.1 innings. Painter will look to shake this one off in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road this weekend in Atlanta.

  • Painter didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Diamondbacks, allowing just two hits and no walks over seven scoreless innings. He struck out six.

Painter was stellar Wednesday, as he held Arizona to just a pair of singles, though he ultimately came away with a no-decision as the Phillies failed to provide any run support in an eventual 1-0 defeat. Painter has now delivered three straight quality starts, allowing just four runs while striking out 21 over 20 innings during that span. He's lowered his ERA to 5.55 across 105.1 innings this season with a 1.37 WHIP and 91:37 K:BB. Painter is currently in line to face the Astros at home his next time out.
